Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi (SUAD) invites applications for a DoH licensed Psychologist / Counsellor, based at the Zayed Military University (ZMU) campus to provide professional, ethical, and confidential mental health services to university students. The role focuses on supporting student well-being through counseling, crisis intervention, psychiatric referrals, and close collaboration with the Student Success & Wellbeing team to ensure appropriate accommodations and support services are implemented effectively.
This position is based on-site at the ZMU campus and plays a vital role in promoting student safety, resilience, and academic success.
Key Responsibilities
Counselling & Psychological Support
- Provide individual and group counseling sessions.
- Conduct psychological, behavioral, and cognitive assessments upon referral.
- Prepare professional medical reports, diagnoses, and accommodation recommendations.
- Maintain accurate, ethical, and confidential student records.
- Schedule sessions to avoid conflicts with academic timetables.
Student Safety & Crisis Management
- Respond immediately to student crises, including risk of self-harm or harm to others.
- Perform risk assessments and coordinate urgent referrals to psychiatrists when needed.
- Ensure full compliance with UAE laws, DOH regulations, and institutional confidentiality standards.
Student Success & Wellbeing
- Deliver wellbeing workshops, outreach initiatives, and mental health awareness campaigns.
Collaboration & Reporting
- Work closely with the Student Success & Wellbeing team and other university stakeholders.
- Participate in meetings and multidisciplinary case discussions.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly activity reports and self-evaluations.
Policies & Procedures
- Follow and contribute to the development of departmental policies, SOPs, and processes.
- Carry out additional related duties as assigned by the Line Manager.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Clinical Psychology.
- Valid Department of Health (DOH), Abu Dhabi license as a Clinical Psychologist.
- Proven ability to manage high-risk and crisis mental health cases.
Experience
- Experience within the UAE or Gulf higher education environment.
- Familiarity with academic accommodations and student support frameworks.
- Experience delivering mental health workshops or awareness programs.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong ethical judgment and commitment to confidentiality.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and report-writing skills.
- High cultural awareness and sensitivity in a multicultural academic setting.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Languages: English (mandatory), Arabic (preferred).
Work Arrangement
- Weekly on-site presence as per ZMU/SUAD schedule.
- On-call availability for emergency and high-risk cases.
- Monthly workshops and outreach activities aligned with the academic calendar.
