Job Description

Reports to:Principal Investigator

Purpose:

The job holder is responsible for managing research projects and overseeing the development and implementation of the program's research agenda; functions also include providing both technical and non-technical support for the research team.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop an annual plan for the program research agenda in consultation with the principal investigator and the co-principal investigator
  • Draft research papers and reports, analytical short commentaries, and contribute to the program publications
  • Develop Terms of Reference for papers and reports and follow up on research progress for a timely and high-quality delivery
  • Supervise researchers and research assistants within the program
  • Manage the research team and research outputs, including commissioning papers and reports and overseeing editing efforts
  • Provide technical guidance and feedback for research team and oversee the implementation of individual research plans
  • Identify strategic opportunities for the expansion of the program activities
  • Work with the principal investigator in identifying new funding opportunities and new partnerships with relevant entities
  • Design and implement outreach events ranging from public seminars to closed workshops on particular thematic areas relevant to his/her expertise
  • Participate in organizing the annual conference
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Requirements:

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • PhD degree in political science, economics, political economy, sociology and anthropology or relevant fields

Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience, with 4 years specialized in research

  • Strong political-economic background
  • Holding academic and quality standards of research
  • An established academic publication record
  • Management and leadership skills
  • Teamwork skills
  • Ability to manage a complex workload and work to tight deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills
  • Experience in facilitation and public speaking
  • Experience in planning workshops and/or delivering training
  • Editing skills
  • Excellent command of Arabic and English language. French is a plus
