Job Responsibilities:

  • Represent Syska Hennessy in meetings and technical discussions with the Clients, contractors, consultants, and other members of the project team.
  • Carry out and review engineering calculations, equipment selections, technical specifications, system designs, layouts, and site investigations.
  • Lead the mechanical engineering team and provide technical guidance to engineers, inspectors, CAD operators, and other team members.
  • Attend weekly and monthly project meetings and follow up on mechanical actions and outstanding issues.
  • Review mechanical shop drawings to ensure they are consistent with the approved design, project specifications, local authority requirements, and applicable codes and standards.
  • Review contractors technical submissions, including RFIs, material submittals, shop drawings, method statements, calculations, technical proposals, and variation requests.
  • Coordinate the mechanical works with the other project disciplines.
  • Prepare site instructions and technical correspondence in accordance with the Contract and project procedures.
  • Participate in the review and approval of the contractor's proposed mechanical engineering.
  • Carry out regular site inspections to check the quality and progress of the mechanical works.
  • Ensure that the work is carried out in accordance with the approved drawings, specifications, method statements, material approvals, and accepted engineering practices.
  • Identify defective, incomplete, or non-compliant work and follow up with the contractor until the required corrective action has been completed.
  • Prepare and maintain punch lists and monitor the contractor's progress in closing all outstanding items.
  • Review testing and commissioning procedures, inspection and test plans, commissioning records, and performance results.
  • Witness equipment inspections, testing, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and integrated systems testing.
  • Review as-built drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, testing records, warranties, and other project close-out documents.
  • Confirm that the completed facility has been constructed in line with the approved drawings and the original design intent.
  • Support the Uptime Institute certification process, where applicable.
  • Assist with the final inspection, completion, acceptance, and handover of the facility to the Client.
  • Provide practical technical advice to the Client on mechanical engineering and construction-related matters.
  • Identify and report design issues, construction risks, procurement concerns, and delays that may affect the project's quality, cost, schedule, or performance.
  • Carry out RCAs and generating reports with corrective actions for Clients facing Failures in their critical systems

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of UAE experience in mechanical engineering design, construction supervision, and commissioning of complex building projects, preferably including mission-critical/data center facilities.
  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical building systems, including HVAC, chilled water systems, ventilation, plumbing, drainage, fire protection interfaces, controls/BMS, and associated equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing shop drawings, RFIs, material submittals, method statements, technical calculations, equipment selections, technical proposals, and variation requests.
  • Proven experience with site supervision, inspections, testing and commissioning, punch-list management, project close-out, and handover.
  • Previous UAE/GCC project experience, particularly on large-scale or mission-critical developments, is highly desirable.
  • Professional engineering registration or certification such as PE, CEng, or equivalent is preferred.
