The Mechanical Project Engineer will manage and complete numerous projects that span multiple engineering disciplines and mill areas with primary focus on the Recovery and Recausticizing operations.
How You Will Impact WestRock
- Manage all phases of capital projects from inception through equipment installation and start-up.
- Develop project scopes, cost estimates and schedules.
- Develop and/or manage the preparation of drawings for assigned projects by working with consultants, vendors, and mill personnel.
- Coordinate all type of design activities including equipment sizing, P&ID's, piping, structural, electrical and process control.
- Review detailed engineering drawings developed by vendors and engineering consultants.
- Ensure project design and implementation abides by mill safety policies.
- Conduct project design review meetings
- Manage the direction of consultants, contractors, and maintenance work associated with assigned capital and repair projects.
- Coordinate and manage critical contractor work around Recovery Boiler and Evaporator planned shutdowns and emergency repairs.
- Coordinate and supervise construction and startup activities with project teams, Maintenance, and Operations.
- Control project costs by monitoring expenditures to assure projects are completed within budget.
- Provide accurate capital and expense cash flow forecasts.
- Assure all equipment drawings and manuals are available for all projects.
- Coordinate with Operations, Maintenance, management, and other project stake holders on an ongoing basis.
- Provide engineering expertise to Operations and Maintenance departments to help resolve various operating problems.
- Assist in the achieving the mill's goals by serving on special teams or supplying teams with necessary technical support.
What You Will Need To Succeed
- Position requires a BS Degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred) with minimum 2 to 5 years related experience with emphasis on engineering and capital projects in an integrated pulp & paper mill.
- The ideal candidate would have experience around the Recovery department of a mill and be familiar with the work environment of a planned equipment shutdown.
- Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills and mechanically inclined.
- Adaptability to rapidly changing working environments and operational situations.
