Job Description


Role Description This part-time, remote Medical Director role provides clinical leadership and oversight for health-related programs supporting BAE Systems Maritime – Submarines. The Medical Director will develop and review medical policies, standards, and protocols relevant to occupational health, fitness for duty, and employee wellbeing in a safety-critical environment. Daily activities include consulting with internal stakeholders, advising on complex medical cases, and coordinating with physicians and healthcare providers to ensure appropriate care pathways. The role involves reviewing medical data and reports, assessing health risks, and providing guidance on preventative strategies and regulatory compliance. The Medical Director will contribute to training and education initiatives, support incident reviews, and participate in continuous improvement of medical and health governance across the organization.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess strong core clinical skills in Medicine, with board certification or equivalent professional recognition.
  • Candidates should possess relevant specialty expertise in areas such as Cardiology and Neurology to manage complex health assessments in safety-critical roles.
  • Candidates should possess additional experience or knowledge in Oncology, particularly in the context of fitness-for-work and long-term health considerations.
  • Candidates should possess demonstrated experience working with physicians and multidisciplinary clinical teams, including effective collaboration and consultation skills.
  • Advanced medical degree (MD, DO, or equivalent) and eligibility for appropriate professional licensing or registration.
  • Experience in occupational health, aerospace/defense, maritime, or other high-risk industries is highly beneficial.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and written communication skills, with the ability to interpret medical data and develop clear guidance.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a remote, part-time capacity, managing priorities and maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards.
