Job Description

Job Summary:

The MV Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of medium voltage (MV) electrical systems within port and terminal environments. The role ensures safe and reliable operation of electrical equipment, supporting cargo handling, vessel berthing, and port facility operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Installation & MaintenanceInstall, commission, and maintain medium voltage equipment (11kV/22kV/33kV) including switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, and cables.
  • Ensure proper operation of port cranes, conveyors, pumps, lighting systems, and other MV-powered equipment.
  • Testing & TroubleshootingConduct routine inspections, fault detection, and testing of MV electrical systems.
  • Perform insulation resistance tests, continuity checks, and high-voltage testing.
  • Identify and resolve electrical faults efficiently to minimize downtime.
  • Safety & ComplianceFollow strict safety protocols while working with medium voltage systems (PPE, LOTO, permits).
  • Ensure compliance with port authority, local electrical codes, and international safety standards.
  • Participate in safety drills and emergency response activities.
  • Documentation & ReportingMaintain records of maintenance, repairs, and inspections.
  • Report operational issues, hazards, and equipment failures to the Electrical Supervisor.
  • Collaboration & SupportCoordinate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams for smooth port operations.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior electricians or trainees.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Diploma/ITI in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Proven experience working with medium voltage (MV) systems), preferably in ports, terminals, or industrial environments.
  • Knowledge of MV switchgear, transformers, motor control centers, and protective relays.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and diagnostic skills.
  • Understanding of safety regulations and electrical standards (IEC, NEC, local codes).
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, drawings, and wiring diagrams.
