Job Summary
JOB DESCRIPTION
Carry out all planned preventive maintenance activities including the repairing, and servicing of all electrical equipment and systems essential to drilling operations considering the safety of personnel, the environment, and equipment to maximize drilling operation efficiency.
Roles & Responsibilities
Troubleshooting and Repairs:
- Collaborates with senior electrician in identifying and resolving electrical issues by conducting tests, inspections, and troubleshooting procedures. Promptly reports any equipment damage or faults to rig supervisors.
- Maintain rig equipment & repair failures and malfunctions in electrical equipment and systems, utilizing diagnostic tools, equipment manuals, and technical documentation to fix complex electrical issues and implementing effective solutions to restore functionality and minimize downtime.
Equipment Maintenance & Operations
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all rig power generation and distribution equipment such as generators, engine controls units, SCR's, VSD's, UPS's, transformers, etc.
- Perform the maintenance, repair, and servicing of electrical equipment at location as HVAC systems, communication systems, consoles & control panels, DC/AC drilling motors & auxiliaries, etc. to ensure optimal performance of the rig.
- Assist in performing and interpreting power calculations, power factor, insulation tests, and positive relay tests as required.
- Perform routine inspections and maintenance of equipment as per the planned maintenance schedule, and/or as directed by Senior Electrician.
- Install new equipment as per regulatory and company standards including paying attention to management of change requirements.
- Utilize the preventative maintenance system for tracking, monitoring, and managing the maintenance and performance of equipment within the rig.
- Survey the general condition of all electrical equipment in use at the start of each shift, report any system issues to Senior Electrician and tool pusher and raise corrective work order to manage the repair. (daily walk around)
- Ensure that repairs, needed or made, are registered in the form of a work order in the company maintenance system.
- Carry out Planned maintenance work orders on time with good quality and record actual work done, inform Senior Electrician and Senior Tool pusher where access to perform work is not granted.
- Reference OEM manuals when carrying out preventative maintenance or CM work on any rig equipment do not reply solely on the PM work instruction.
- Use thermographic camera as part of planned routine maintenance and health checks of equipment to aid early fault detections
Materials & Equipment
- Maintain an adequate supply of spare parts, consumables, and supplies to fulfil maintenance requirements and facilitate a safe and efficient operation.
Rig Move
- Ensure that all electrical equipment is properly secured and protected for transportation, while the disassembly and loading of equipment is onto transport vehicles.
- Reassemble and install all electrical equipment's at the new location and perform the final checks on the system to ensure they are ready for drilling operations.
Housekeeping
- Ensures that the workshop is clean and organized, free of hazards prior to & upon completion of the work tasks, or repairs.
- Ensure Switch rooms, VFD or SCR rooms have no flammable materials contained within them and that these areas are not used as storage areas. Insulating mats will be maintained and kept free of grease and dirt. Wherever possible these areas should be restricted to technical personnel only. Electric shock recovery kits will be maintained and accessible.
- Disposes debris as per the company's hazardous material segregations policy and as per waste management policy taking into consideration the environmental & safety aspects.
Client Management
- Maintain an effective working relationship with other departments, third party personnel and Client Representatives.
Reporting And Documentation
- Record and report all electrical maintenance activities, equipment inspections, repairs, and spare parts inventory in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Comply with the permit to work and isolation systems.
People Management
- Develop and train junior electricians and provide clear instructions regarding their duties, responsibilities, and any necessary safety precautions prior to commencing work.
Job Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Formal training as an electrician in the form of a multi-year apprenticeship and or technical degree is required.
- Minimum two (2) years of working experience in the electrical field in drilling and workover operations.
- Preferred to have working experience on Land rigs.
Skills/Competencies Required
- Intermediate in the English language (Spoken & Written)
- PC literate in Microsoft Office
- Situation Awareness, Communication, Teamwork, details oriented, Problem Solving,
Physical Requirements
- Rarely climbing (stairs, ladders).
- Rarely bending, twisting, and standing.
- Ability to work outdoors under all extreme weather conditions (Noise / Humidity / Cold / Heat).
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
- Ability to work in day/night shift as required with 12-hour minimum shift
