Role Overview:
The Ocean Freight Operations Agent is responsible for the end-to-end coordination of international sea freight shipments. This role serves as the primary liaison between customers, carriers, and customs to ensure all cargo moves efficiently, remains compliant with global regulations, and reaches its destination on time.
Key Responsibilities
- Shipment Management: Coordinate and monitor ocean freight shipments (FCL/LCL) from origin to final destination.
- Documentation Control: Prepare and process critical export/import documents, including Bills of Lading (HBL/MBL), commercial invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin.
- Carrier Coordination: Secure vessel bookings, obtain sailing schedules, and negotiate competitive rates with shipping lines and vendors.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all shipments adhere to international trade laws, Incoterms, and local customs requirements to avoid delays or penalties.
- Customer Service: Provide proactive updates to clients regarding shipment status and resolve operational issues such as delays or equipment shortages.
- Financial Processing: Manage invoicing, audit carrier charges, and ensure accurate billing for all services rendered.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience: 1–3 years of proven experience in ocean freight forwarding or a similar logistics role.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of maritime logistics, including knowledge of global shipping routes and customs clearance procedures.
- Software Proficiency: Experience with logistics management software (e.g., CargoWise, SAP) and MS Office (especially Excel).
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills for negotiating with carriers and maintaining client relationships.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field is preferred.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, ability to work under pressure, and strong problem-solving capabilities.
Preferred Certifications (Plus)
- FIATA Diploma or other specialized certifications in international trade or dangerous goods handling.
