Job Description

Position Overview:

As a member of Etihad Rail's OpCo Training Department, the Operations Technical Trainer provides end-to-end (full stack) training support for frontline rail operations.

The role is accountable for identifying training needs through task and risk analysis, designing and developing competence-based training and assessment materials, and delivering training in line with Etihad Rail's Training and Assurance Plan and Competence Management System (CMS) requirements.

The Operations Technical Trainer ensures training remains compliant, current, and operationally relevant by monitoring learner performance, maintaining accurate records, gathering feedback and assurance inputs, and driving continuous improvement to support safe, consistent, and efficient operations.

Roles and Responsibility:

  • Deliver end-to-end (full stack) training services: analyse training needs, design solutions, develop materials, deliver training, assess competence, and evaluate effectiveness for new joiners and existing staff (including refresher and revalidation).
  • Ensure required competence levels are achieved and maintained in line with Etihad Rail standards, operational assurance requirements, and applicable guidelines.
  • Maintain personal functional and technical competence and actively research international developments and best practices, incorporating relevant improvements into training content, methods, and assessment practices.
  • Conduct and maintain TNAs, competency specifications (Cspecs) and risk analysis (CAAM) to identify competence gaps and update competency requirements, training programmes, assessment tools and CMS accordingly.
  • Develop, review, and update controlled training and assessment materials to ensure they remain current, compliant, standardised, and fit for purpose.
  • Maintain accurate, auditable training and competence records, ensuring traceability, data integrity, and timely reporting.
  • Provide mentoring and on-the-job support to new joiners, helping them integrate into the training environment and adopt required standards, methods, and quality expectations.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties assigned to support operational priorities and departmental objectives.

Academic Qualifications:

  • Engineering, Transport/Logistics, Rail Operations, or a related discipline (or equivalent recognized qualification). (Desirable)
  • Relevant vocational or technical qualifications supporting railway operations and/or rolling stock operations. (Desirable)
  • Recognized training, assessing and internal quality assurance qualifications (e.g. Level 3 in Teaching, Level 3 in Assessment AET/PTLLS, TAQA, A1/D32/D33, IQA).

Professional Qualifications:

  • Heavy rail Train Driver qualification with a clean driving record.
  • Train-the-Trainer qualification.
  • Learning design / e-learning / digital content development qualification or evidence of competence (e.g., instructional design, LMS authoring tools). (Desirable)
  • Successful completion of prescribed psychometric assessments is required.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years proven rail operations experience, with competence-based training and assessment for safety-critical operational roles (passenger or freight).
  • Demonstrable full stack capability: conducting TNA/task & risk analysis, designing and developing materials and assessments, delivering training, assessing competence, maintaining records, and driving continuous improvement.
  • Train Simulator training/assessment experience, including scenario design, facilitation, debriefing, and performance evaluation.
  • CMS/LMS experience (Competence Management System and Learning Management System), including learner administration, training record management, reporting, and evidence traceability.
  • Strong digital capability: proficient with modern MS Office tools and e-learning techniques; able to develop, adapt, and deliver digital learning resources and maintain training documentation and records to audit standard.

Other Skills:

  • Excellent standard of the English language essential
