JOB SUMMARY

The Planning & Commercial Engineeris responsible for developing, maintaining, and monitoring project schedules and progress for assigned projects, while also managing the commercial aspects of contracts such as cost control and commercial management. The role supports project execution by ensuring effective planning, resource utilization, and timely reporting in line with approved scope, schedule, budget, and contractual requirements. The engineer works closely with project teams, contractors, consultants, and the commercial department to track progress, manage variations, and ensure compliance with contractual obligations. This position requires balancing planning expertise with commercial oversight to optimize project performance and risk management.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Project Planning

  • Develop and maintain project schedules, work breakdown structures (WBS), and baseline programs in line with project execution strategies.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of planning systems and procedures covering scheduling, progress measurement, and reporting.
  • Review project execution plans and implementation schedules, providing input on logic, sequencing, and durations.
  • Assist in reviewing consultants and contractors schedules, mobilization plans, and resource loading.

Monitoring, Control & Reporting

  • Monitor and update project schedules on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Track progress during work execution and report deviations, delays, and productivity issues to project management.
  • Prepare progress reports, look-ahead schedules, S-curves, and progress dashboards for internal and client reporting.
  • Compile and maintain records of construction productivity, manpower deployment, and resource utilization.

Budgeting & Commercial Support

  • Provide planning input for preparation of departmental budgets and project forecasts.
  • Identify and manage variations, claims, and extensions of time (EOTs).
  • Prepare commercial substantiation including delay analysis, productivity impacts, and cost backup
  • Maintain contractual correspondence and commercial registers
  • Support negotiations with clients and relevant stakeholders
  • Assist in evaluating schedule impacts related to variations, change orders, and site issues.

Coordination & Support

  • Coordinate planning activities with project managers, engineers, site teams, and subcontractors.
  • Liaise with workshop and site teams to ensure alignment between planned and actual progress.
  • Support continuous improvement of planning tools, templates, and reporting formats.
  • Prepare dashboard reports covering schedule, cost, manhours, and progress

Commercial Planning & Management

  • Manage the commercial aspects of contracts, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Review and process variation orders, contract notifications, and protocol in line with contractual requirements.
  • Support contract administration, including documenting changes, assessing impacts, and coordinating approvals.
  • Provide input to commercial risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with project and commercial teams to ensure accurate tracking of claims, cost impacts, and project deliverables.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related discipline).

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • 5 to 7 years of experience as a Planning Engineer or in a similar planning role.
  • Experience in skid and piping fabrication, boiler fabrication and repair of heat transfer systems for marine, offshore, industrial, and power sector projects.
  • Experience in fabrication workshops, EPC projects, or industrial construction environments is preferred.
  • Exposure to contract administration, commercial management, variation orders, and EOT claims is highly desirable.

JOB-SPECIFIC SKILLS

  • Working knowledge of Primavera P6 and/or MS Project (mandatory).
  • Advanced skills in MS Excel for progress tracking, reporting, and basic commercial analysis.
  • Understanding scheduling principles, critical path methods (CPM), and progress measurement techniques.
  • Knowledge of commercial management processes, including contract review, variation orders, notifications, and risk assessment.
  • Experience with delay analysis, EOT claim substantiation, and integration of commercial and planning data.

GENERAL SKILLS

  • Good communication and coordination skills.
  • Ability to build professional relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet reporting deadlines.
