Job Summary
The Plant Manager will be responsible for
end-to-end plant operations of the steel drums manufacturing unit, ensuring
safe, efficient, and cost-effective production while maintaining high standards of
quality, compliance, and delivery timelines.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Operations
- Plan, organize, and control daily production activities for steel drums (tight head, open head, conical drums, etc.)
- Ensure achievement of production targets with optimal utilization of manpower, machines, and materials
- Monitor production KPIs such as output, efficiency, scrap, downtime, and OEE
Quality Management
- Ensure compliance with IS / UN / ISO / customer-specific quality standards
- Implement and monitor quality control processes at all stages of manufacturing
- Handle customer audits, quality complaints, and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA)
Maintenance & Engineering- Oversee preventive and breakdown maintenance of:
- Drum forming machines
- Welding machines
- Seaming, flanging, testing & painting lines
- Ensure high machine availability and minimal downtime
Safety, Health & Environment (SHE)
- Ensure strict adherence to safety standards, statutory norms, and environmental regulations
- Conduct regular safety audits, training, and risk assessments
- Promote a strong safety culture across the plant
Cost Control & Productivity
- Control manufacturing costs including raw material, utilities, consumables, and labor
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Kaizen, 5S)
- Reduce scrap, rework, and wastage
People Management
- Lead and manage production, maintenance, quality, and support teams
- Workforce planning, training, performance management, and discipline
- Foster teamwork and employee engagement
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure compliance with factory laws, labor laws, pollution control norms, and statutory requirements
- Maintain proper production, quality, and maintenance documentation
Coordination & Reporting
- Coordinate with procurement, logistics, sales, and corporate teams
- Prepare MIS reports on production, quality, safety, and costs
- Support new product development and process improvements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical / Production / Metallurgical Engineering
- 10-15 years of experience in manufacturing, preferably in steel drums / metal packaging / steel fabrication
- At least 5 years in a leadership role handling full plant operations
