Senior MultiCloud Platform Engineer (Freelance LongTerm Contract)

Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior MultiCloud Platform Engineer to design, automate, secure, and operate a missioncritical banking platform running across Oracle Cloud (OCI) and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).This role is central to ensuring high availability, resilience, security, and regulatory compliance while driving automation, GitOps adoption, and operational excellence across the organisation.
You will work closely with engineering, security, and architecture teams to build a scalable, compliant, and fully automated cloud foundation aligned with SAMA IT Governance and modern DevSecOps practices.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Architecture & Automation
- Design, build, and automate cloud infrastructure across GCP and OCI using Terraform.
- Develop scalable, secure, and resilient multicloud architectures for regulated banking workloads.
Kubernetes Platform Operations
- Operate and optimise managed Kubernetes clusters (OKE and GKE).
- Manage upgrades, scaling, HA configurations, service mesh integrations, and gateway components.
Platform Components & Services
- Administer and enhance core platform services including:
- Kong API Gateway
- Istio / Service Mesh
- HashiCorp Vault
- ExternalDNS
DevOps & GitOps
- Implement GitOps workflows using ArgoCD.
- Integrate CI/CD pipelines to enable seamless, automated delivery.
- Support Helm, Kustomize, and modern deployment patterns.
Observability & Monitoring
- Deploy and maintain observability tooling: Dynatrace, Prometheus, Alertmanager, Grafana.
- Ensure proactive monitoring, alerting, and performance visibility across distributed systems.
Security & Compliance
- Strengthen platform security using SAST, DAST, RBAC, mTLS, image scanning, and DevSecOps controls.
- Ensure compliance with SAMA and internal governance frameworks.
Resilience & Disaster Recovery
- Lead DR planning, testing, and execution aligned with RTO/RPO objectives.
- Build automated failover and recovery mechanisms across cloud environments.
Technical Leadership
- Troubleshoot complex distributed systems and guide engineering teams.
- Drive continuous improvement in scalability, performance, and cost optimisation.
Required Skills & Experience
- Advanced expertise in Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud, and Terraform.
- Strong handson experience with managed Kubernetes (HA, upgrades, scaling, service mesh, gateways).
- Deep knowledge of Istio, API gateways, service mesh architectures, and traffic management.
- Proficiency with Vault for secrets management and PKI.
- Solid experience with GitOps (ArgoCD), CI/CD automation, Helm, and Kustomize.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across microservices, distributed systems, and cloudnative platforms.
