Job Purpose
The PMO Business Planning Manager is responsible for supporting organizational strategy execution by managing business planning activities, portfolio governance, performance tracking, and alignment of projects with strategic objectives. The role ensures effective planning, prioritization, and monitoring of initiatives across the organization through standardized PMO frameworks and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
1. Business Planning & Strategy Alignment
- Lead the annual and quarterly business planning cycles in coordination with leadership teams.
- Translate corporate strategy into portfolio initiatives, programs, and projects.
- Ensure alignment between business objectives, budgets, and project portfolios.
- Facilitate strategic planning workshops and cross-functional alignment sessions.
2. Portfolio & Program Management
- Manage the project and program portfolio pipeline including intake, prioritization, and approval processes.
- Maintain visibility of all initiatives and ensure they support organizational goals.
- Monitor portfolio health including timelines, resources, risks, and benefits realization.
3. PMO Governance & Frameworks
- Define and implement PMO governance models, standards, and processes.
- Ensure compliance with project management methodologies and policies.
- Facilitate project stage gates, steering committee meetings, and decision forums.
4. Performance Management & Reporting
- Develop executive dashboards and reports on portfolio performance.
- Track KPIs, milestones, risks, and benefits realization across programs.
- Provide insights and recommendations to senior leadership for decision-making.
5. Financial Planning & Resource Management
- Support budget planning and financial tracking for strategic initiatives.
- Monitor project financial performance and forecast resource requirements.
- Optimize allocation of resources across projects and programs.
6. Stakeholder Management
- Act as the central coordination point between business units, PMO, finance, and leadership.
- Support senior executives with strategic planning data and insights.
- Manage communications and reporting across stakeholders.
7. Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve PMO processes, tools, and governance.
- Implement best practices in project portfolio management and planning.
- Promote a culture of data-driven decision-making and performance tracking.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Finance, or related field
- Master's degree (MBA or similar) preferred
- PMP / PRINCE2 / PgMP / PMI-PMO-CP certifications preferred
Experience
- 815 years of experience in PMO, strategy, or business planning roles
- Experience managing project portfolios or enterprise transformation programs
- Strong exposure to strategic planning and performance management
- Experience working with senior leadership and cross-functional teams
