EWEC (Emirates Water and Electricity Company) is the sole procurer and supplier of water and electricity in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. EWEC drives the planning, forecasting, purchasing, and system despatch services of water and electricity. EWEC fulfils these vital responsibilities through the short-term and long-term balancing of bulk supply and demand for distribution companies and authorities in Abu Dhabi and other Emirates. The Power Control Engineer is responsible for the monitoring and dispatching of the power and water production facilities to maintain the balance of supply and demand, while ensuring stable and economic operation of the network.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Continuously monitor the frequency level in the power transmission network
  • Ensure constant balance between power and water supply and demand within set parameters of function.
  • Ensure security of the network by maintaining adequate spinning reserve
  • Respond to disturbance in the network immediately and act accordingly.
  • Incorporate production outage schedules into daily planned activities.
  • Follow defined operational standards.
  • Ensure applying all required safety rules during all operations including planned activities and emergencies.
  • Achieve authorization as Control Person as defined under Safety Rules to undertake operation of High Voltage network equipment up to 400 kV as well as Low Voltage equipment within the Substations.
  • Follow interconnection agreements and operational procedures with interconnected utilities.
  • Utilize all economic dispatch and unit commitment programs.
  • Maintain accurate equipment-wise recording of settlement issues for billing purposes.
  • Full cooperation with Senior Power Control engineers in all operational activities during the shift
  • Ensure effective hand over process at the end of shift.
  • Accurate logging for all generation and distillers events in EDL (Economic Dispatch Logger).
  • Complete restoration of the network in case of partial or total black out
  • Report to the senior Power Control engineer and/or Head of Section any abnormality in the system.
  • Arrange / coordinate routine outages with GCCIA.
  • Arrange / coordinate routine outages with Distribution Companies
  • Arrange / coordinate routine outages with UAE interconnected utilities.
  • Accurate logging of all transmission and production events.
  • Implement all relevant section policies, processes, and procedures so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.
  • Execute the continuous improvement of systems, processes and practices taking into account international leading practice and changes in business environment and leveraging insights. This includes supporting the related change management efforts.
  • Ensure adherence to all health, safety, security and environment (HSSE) policies and requirements.
  • Adhere to EWEC values (including sustainability, integrity, collaboration and innovation)
  • Contribute to the preparation of timely and accurate reports to meet the section requirements, policies and standards.

Required Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering in Electrical and Power engineering

Required Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum of 4 years experience in System Operations. Energy and Utility sector experience.
