The Job Summary
The Product Development Designer is responsible for designing new product through in-depth research; and developing showroom design concepts with new construction, renovation and furnishing.
Responsibilities:
New Products Development
- Research and conduct interior design studies staying abreast of new concept designs, interior design techniques and trends.
- Work closely with Product Development Team Leader and Manager in conceptualizing and developing new products with an emphasis on innovation, aesthetics and value proposition.
- Develop furniture design and produce high-quality work that meets customer needs, market trends and align with the company's strategic objectives.
- Develop design concepts and criteria, including furniture layouts and finishing specifications.
- Conduct research for interior products and provide colour scheme & contrast recommendations, finishing, and material selection.
- Prepare construction specification and detailed requisitions for materials and furniture.
- Set design requirements based on information received from internal teams.
- Follow design principles such as ergonomics, functionality, and aesthetics during the process of new product development.
- Collaborate with sales and operations/production to understand their needs and requirements and incorporate their feedback into the product development process.
- Engage in programming, space planning & analysis, and preparation of construction documents in 2D and 3D.
- Showcase expertise in creating complex sketches, 2D and 3D drawings and illustrations for new product catalogue.
- Demonstrate expertise in AutoCAD, SketchUp, and SolidWorks to create detailed and accurate product designs that can be used for manufacturing.
- Apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and other design standards.
- Consider material properties and its impact while taking design decisions related to material properties.
- Identify new product improvement opportunities and share recommendations with the Product Development Team Leader and Manager.
- Analyse new product suitability to market needs and consumer preferences.
- Work closely with general contractors through all phases.
Design Test & Validation
- Test and evaluate product design to ensure quality and usability.
- Conduct design reviews and refine designs based on the feedback.
- Collaborate with relevant department to arrange for hardware and seek approval create prototypes/samples to quickly test and iterate on designs.
- Maintain internal as well as industry standards and regulations to ensure products meet quality and safety requirements.
Showrooms Redesigning
- Create innovative and new schematic designs for Creative Closets new showrooms as well as refurbishing of current showrooms.
- Create effective floor plans and spatial arrangements for furniture showrooms.
- Try and test lighting and colour schemes to create a visually appealing showroom design.
- Experiment with various fixtures and hardware to create effective displays and product placement designs.
- Maintain Creative Closets innovative image and ensure adherence to company standards and best practices.
- Work in line with company's branding principles and review how these can be incorporated into the showroom design.
Educational Qualifications
Bachelor's in Interior Design
Professional Certifications
IMOS; AutoCAD, SketchUp, 3D Max and SolidWorks Certifications
Experience in Similar Capacity
Min. 2 years
Languages Proficiency
Fluent in Arabic & English languages
