Job Description

The Project Manager will oversee large-scale airport construction work packages, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role requires strong leadership, deep technical expertise in airport development, and proven capabilities managing multidisciplinary teams in complex international environments.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Coordination

  • Lead the on-site project management team for the airport development program.
  • Oversee all construction supervision functions and ensure compliance with approved designs, specifications, and international standards.
  • Provide strategic direction to ensure alignment with client objectives, timelines, and quality requirements.
  • Coordinate with design teams, contractors, subcontractors, and client representatives.

Construction Supervision

  • Monitor daily construction activities to ensure adherence to schedule and safety protocols.
  • Review and approve method statements, work programs, and QA/QC procedures.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and technical audits.
  • Identify risks, deviations, and interface issues, proposing effective mitigation strategies.

Contract Administration

  • Manage all contractual communications between the client, Dar Al-Handasah, and contractors.
  • Review claims, variations, payment applications, and contractual correspondence.
  • Ensure strict adherence to FIDIC or equivalent contract frameworks.
  • Support dispute resolution and prepare detailed reports for senior management.

Stakeholder Management

  • Build strong relationships with the client, government authorities, and international partners.
  • Lead progress meetings, technical workshops, and coordination sessions.
  • Prepare high-level presentations, progress reports, and decision-support documentation.

Team Leadership

  • Supervise and mentor a diverse team of engineers, inspectors, and contract administrators.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, technical excellence, and safety across the project team.

Qualifications & Experience

Mandatory

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (Master's preferred).
  • Minimum 20 years of total professional experience in construction and engineering.
  • Minimum 12 years of proven experience managing large-scale international projects, preferably airport or aviation-related.
  • Strong background in construction supervision, project controls, and contract administration.
  • Previous experience in Africa or developing markets is an advantage.

Technical & Leadership Skills

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and cross-cultural management skills.
  • Deep understanding of airport infrastructure systems (runways, terminals, airside/landside facilities).
  • Ability to manage complex construction interfaces and multi-package delivery programs.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • High proficiency in project management tools and reporting systems.
