Job Description

Reports to: SeniorDirector, Pre-Awards

Purpose: The role supports AUC faculty and researchers in obtaining external funding, through identifying new funding opportunities and sponsors, preparing and submitting competitive grant proposals. The role involves reviewing and coordinating complex proposal submissions, multiple stakeholders, submission requirements ensuring compliance with sponsor and institutional policies, and managing the full proposal development process from initial opportunity identification through final submission. The position also enhances faculty capacity to compete for external funding and contributes to the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) mission of increasing research visibility and sponsored project success across the University.

Responsibilities:

  • Proposal Development Recommendations and Review: Provide proposal development services for faculty across all disciplines. Review, edit, write and revise narratives for clarity, accuracy, and alignment with sponsor requirements. Assist with institutional requirements and develop boilerplate information for use in a wide variety of proposals, as needed
  • Funding Opportunity Identification: Identify and disseminate relevant funding opportunities. Match donor interests and program priorities with faculty expertise using multiple funding databases
  • Technical Expertise Development: Proactively map faculty research interests and areas of expertise to relevant funding opportunities and sponsor priorities. Leverage a comprehensive understanding of sponsor guidelines and mastery of electronic research administration portals to facilitate targeted proposal development
  • Faculty Capacity Building: Enhance faculty's grants competitiveness through workshops and one-on-one training on proposal development, submission systems, and compliance requirements
  • Proposal Management & Compliance: Manage complex proposals, including coordination between all related/multiple stakeholders (internal and external), and manage the internal review and approval process. Ensure with sponsor guidelines and university policies. Monitor deadlines, track progress, and ensure timely submission. Manage several concurrent proposals simultaneously and provide rapid responses in a fast-paced environment
  • Budget Review: Review budgets with input from the award officers. Confirm that estimates are reasonable, compliant, allowable, and aligned with AUC's financial regulations and sponsor guidelines
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Liaise with Principal Investigators, department chairs, deans, the Provost, and CFO for approvals. Communicate directly with sponsors as needed
  • Documentation & Quality Assurance: Edit proposals for format, grammar, clarity, and RFP alignment. Maintain proposal templates, boilerplates, and repository of common documents
  • Additional Related Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements:

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, writing-related field or social science

Experience:

  • A minimum of seven years of experience, including experience in grant writing or proposal development.

Skills:

  • Proposal Development and Submission: Strong English writing, proofreading, and editing skills. Ability to draft clear and accurate proposal sections based on faculty input.
  • Funding Opportunity Research: Ability to search, identify, and summarize suitable funding opportunities using standard databases.
  • Compliance & Guideline Understanding: Basic understanding of sponsor guidelines and ability to interpret RFPs with guidance.
  • Project Coordination & Time Management: Ability to manage multiple proposal deadlines and coordinate with faculty and the OSP team, priority setting and multi-tasking skills
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Effective communication with faculty and internal stakeholders.
