Job Description

Job Title: Senior Design & Estimation Engineer Solar PV

Location: Dubai, UAE

Department: Engineering / Projects

Reports To: Engineering Manager / Head of Projects

Job Summary

The Senior Design and Estimation Engineer Solar PV is responsible for leading the technical design, system optimization, and cost estimation of Solar PV projects. The role involves preparing detailed engineering designs, accurate project cost estimates, technical proposals, and supporting EPC execution from concept to commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Engineering

  • Lead the design of Solar PV systems (rooftop, ground-mounted, and utility-scale).
  • Prepare system layouts, string sizing, inverter selection, and BOS design.
  • Develop electrical single-line diagrams (SLDs), GA drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Perform energy yield analysis using tools such as PVsyst / Helioscope.
  • Ensure designs comply with local codes, IEC standards, utility, and client requirements.
  • Optimize designs for cost, performance, and constructability.

Estimation & Costing

  • Prepare detailed project cost estimates including modules, inverters, structures, cabling, civil works, and installation.
  • Develop BOQs, BOMs, and material take-offs.
  • Support tendering and bidding activities with accurate technical and commercial inputs.
  • Evaluate vendor quotations and conduct technical-commercial comparisons.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or performance.

Technical Support & Coordination

  • Provide technical support to procurement, construction, and commissioning teams.
  • Participate in site surveys, feasibility studies, and technical due diligence.
  • Interface with clients, utilities, consultants, and contractors.
  • Review as-built drawings and support project handover documentation.

Leadership & Continuous Improvement

  • Mentor junior engineers and review their designs and estimates.
  • Stay updated with latest Solar PV technologies, standards, and market trends.
  • Contribute to process improvements and standardization of design templates.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's preferred).
  • 710+ years of experience in Solar PV design and estimation.
  • Strong experience with EPC projects (C&I and utility-scale preferred).
  • Proven track record in successful bid support and project execution.

Technical Skills

  • Proficient in AutoCAD, PVsyst, Helioscope (or similar tools).
  • Strong understanding of PV modules, inverters, mounting systems, and BOS.
  • Knowledge of IEC, NEC, IEEE, and local electrical codes.
  • Experience with grid interconnection and utility approvals.
  • Solid understanding of project costing and financial impact of design decisions.
