Job Title: PV Technician Solar Power Plant
Location: Qatar
Department: Operations & Maintenance (O&M)
Reports To: Electrical / PV Supervisor
Job Summary
The PV Technician is responsible for the operation, monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems within utility-scale solar power plants. The role ensures optimal performance, availability, and reliability of PV modules, inverters, trackers, and associated MV/HV substation equipment in compliance with OEM recommendations, approved schematics, and Standard Maintenance Procedures (SMPs).
Key Responsibilities
PV System Operation & Maintenance
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance of PV systems, including:
- Solar PV modules
- Tracking systems
- Inverters
- MV/HV substations
- Monitor system performance using plant SCADA and other monitoring tools.
- Perform predictive maintenance and condition monitoring to minimize breakdowns and reduce unavailability events.
Troubleshooting & Restoration
- Diagnose faults in PV modules, inverters, trackers, and associated electrical systems.
- Restore generating stations to normal operation within minimum downtime using correct and OEM-recommended troubleshooting methods.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance and corrective actions taken.
Solar Inverters & Protection Systems
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot solar inverter systems, relay protection panels, and control panels.
- Support solar tracking systems and ensure their proper alignment and operation.
- Coordinate with substation teams for MV/HV substation operation, switching, and safety procedures.
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
- Follow all HSE procedures, permit-to-work, and electrical safety requirements.
- Participate in toolbox talks, safety briefings, and risk assessments.
- Ensure safe working practices during maintenance, troubleshooting, and operational activities.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain logs of maintenance activities, system faults, and repairs.
- Report performance deviations, downtime events, and maintenance needs to the supervisor.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education:
- Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, or Renewable Energy/Instrumentation or equivalent.
- Experience:
- Proven experience as a PV Technician in solar power plants.
- Hands-on experience in inverters, solar modules, trackers, and MV/HV substations.
- Experience in switching and operating 1500V DC systems is highly desirable.
- Technical Knowledge:
- Strong knowledge of solar inverter systems, relay and control protection panels.
- Familiarity with OEM maintenance recommendations, SCADA monitoring, and SMPs.

- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Good computer literacy for monitoring and reporting (MS Office, SCADA systems)
- Good spoken, written, and reading skills in English
