Job Title: Senior Safety Engineer / Safety Trainer
Position Overview
The Senior Safety Engineer / Safety Trainer is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing operational safety programs within construction and maintenance environments. The role involves delivering occupational safety training, conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and ensuring compliance with international safety standards. This position also includes coaching and mentoring personnel to a professional standard in safety practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, oversee, and coordinate operational safety programs
- Deliver occupational safety training for construction and/or maintenance teams
- Implement risk management and Management of Change (MOC) procedures
- Teach methods for writing safety evaluation, inspection, and audit reports to professional standards
- Conduct incident investigations and determine causal factors using root cause analysis
- Ensure compliance with work permit systems and safety procedures in hazardous environments
- Maintain knowledge of and ensure adherence to international safety codes and standards
- Provide training in:
- HAZCOM (Hazard Communication)
- HAZMAT (Hazardous Materials)
- Basic Life Support (First Aid, CPR, AED)
- Safe use of fire extinguishers
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate safety programs and training sessions
Required Qualifications & Certifications
- B.Sc. in Safety Engineering or Occupational Safety from a fully accredited and reputed university
- OR
- B.Sc. in Chemical, Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, with an internationally accredited diploma/certification in Safety Engineering or Occupational Safety (e.g., OSHA, NEBOSH)
- Valid Trainer/Instructor Certificate or Diploma from a recognized institution
- Minimum 8 years of experience in operational safety, occupational safety training, and risk management in construction/maintenance environments
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of hazard identification, risk assessment, and mitigation
- Expertise in incident investigation and root cause analysis
- Ability to develop and deliver professional training programs
- Knowledge of work permit procedures and safety compliance in hazardous environments
- Strong planning, scheduling, and coordination skills
- Excellent command of English, both written and spoken
- Strong communication, leadership, and mentoring abilities
