Job Summary
The Senior Structural Engineer is responsible for leading and delivering structural BIM models, structural design coordination, and digital construction documentation for building projects. The role combines advanced structural engineering expertise with BIM methodologies to ensure accurate, coordinated, and code-compliant structural models that integrate seamlessly with architectural and MEP disciplines throughout design and construction phases.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop and oversee structural BIM models for various projects, ensuring compliance with project requirements, BIM standards, and regulatory codes.
- Perform detailed structural analysis and calculations to define load paths, member sizing, foundations, and safety factors.
- Translate structural designs and calculations into accurate BIM models and coordinated construction documents.
- Optimize structural systems within BIM environments to balance cost, safety, constructability, and performance.
- Lead the preparation and review of structural BIM deliverables, including models, drawings, schedules, and reports.
- Ensure correct Level of Development (LOD) and data accuracy at each project stage.
- Coordinate structural BIM models with architectural and MEP models to resolve clashes and design conflicts.
- Participate in BIM coordination meetings and manage clash detection and resolution processes.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior Structural BIM Engineers and modelers.
- Review and audit BIM models and drawings to ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance with standards.
- Implement BIM QA/QC procedures to maintain consistency and reliability of deliverables.
- Ensure compliance with local and international building codes, standards, and client BIM requirements.
- Support construction teams by responding to RFIs, technical queries, and model-based coordination issues.
- Conduct site inspections to verify alignment between BIM models, drawings, and site execution.
- Assist in resolving construction-stage structural issues using BIM-based solutions.
- Support as-built modeling and handover documentation.
- Work closely with architects, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams to integrate structural designs into overall project BIM models.
- Identify and mitigate structural and coordination risks through proactive BIM coordination and design reviews.
Job Knowledge & Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
- Advanced expertise in structural engineering principles for concrete, steel, and other structural systems.
- Strong proficiency in Revit Structure, Navisworks, and AutoCAD.
- Experience with structural analysis software such as ETABS, SAP2000, or STAAD.Pro, and integration of analysis outputs into BIM models.
- In-depth knowledge of BIM standards, workflows, and coordination processes.
- Strong understanding of local and international building codes and regulations.
- Effective communication and coordination skills for multidisciplinary BIM environments.
- Leadership and team management skills for delivering high-quality BIM projects.
- ERP knowledge, preferably SAP functional skills, is required.
- Minimum 8 years total experience.
- Minimum 5 years relevant experience in Structural BIM.
- GCC experience (2 years) is an advantage.
