The Senior Commercial Manager is responsible for managing the commercial and contractual aspects of construction projects, ensuring profitability, risk management, compliance, and optimal contract execution. This role drives strategic decisions on bidding, negotiations, claims management, and cost control, supporting the overall business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Contract Management & Negotiations
- Lead the preparation, review, and negotiation of contracts, subcontracts, and procurement agreements.
- Ensure contractual terms protect the company's interests and mitigate risks.
- Provide strategic advice on contract variations, extensions, claims, and dispute resolution.
Commercial Strategy & Planning
- Develop and implement commercial strategies to maximize project profitability.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and cost indices to inform project bids and negotiations.
- Participate in bid reviews, tender evaluations, and financial feasibility analysis.
Cost Control & Financial Management
- Monitor project budgets, cost forecasts, and cash flow projections.
- Identify risks and opportunities, implementing mitigation strategies to protect project margins.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting and commercial KPIs.
Claims & Risk Management
- Lead claims preparation, submission, and negotiation with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Mitigate risks related to project delays, variations, and contractual obligations.
- Collaborate with legal teams to resolve disputes efficiently.
Stakeholder Management
- Liaise with project teams, clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Provide commercial guidance to project managers and senior management.
- Support management in strategic decision-making for business growth.
Team Leadership
- Lead and mentor commercial teams, including quantity surveyors, contract engineers, and cost controllers.
- Develop team capabilities and ensure adherence to company policies and standards.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field; Master's preferred.
- Minimum 1015 years of experience in commercial management within large-scale construction projects.
- Proven experience in contract negotiation, claims management, and risk mitigation.
- Strong knowledge of FIDIC, NEC, or relevant construction contracts.
