Job Description

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analyticalCost Accountantto join our dynamic finance team. In this role, you will be responsible for analyzing our costs of production, managing inventory valuation, and providing key insights to improve operational efficiency and profitability. The ideal candidate will have a strong grasp of cost accounting principles, excellent data analysis skills, and a passion for process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Cost Analysis & Reporting (Core Duties):

  • Calculate and analyze the costs of raw materials, labor, and overhead to determine the true cost of finished goods and services.
  • Prepare and analyze standard costs vs. actual costs (variance analysis), investigating and reporting on significant discrepancies.
  • Maintain and update standard costs in the ERP system (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics).
  • Perform month-end and year-end close activities related to inventory and cost of goods sold (COGS).
  • Prepare detailed cost reports, margin analyses, and profitability reports for management.

Inventory & Production Control:

  • Oversee inventory accounting, including cycle counts, physical inventory audits, and reconciliation of inventory sub-ledgers to the general ledger.
  • Analyze inventory valuation (FIFO, LIFO, Weighted Average) and report on slow-moving or obsolete inventory.
  • Work closely with the operations and procurement teams to track production yields and material usage.

Budgeting & Forecasting Support:

  • Assist in the development of annual budgets and periodic forecasts for production costs and overhead.
  • Provide data and analysis to support capital expenditure justifications and product pricing decisions.

Process Improvement & Compliance:

  • Identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve efficiency within the production process.
  • Develop and document cost accounting policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and assist with internal and external audits.
  • Support the implementation or optimization of ERP and cost accounting modules.
Qualifications & Skills

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of3 yearsof cost accounting experience in a manufacturing, distribution, or similar product-based environment.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), specifically related to inventory and cost accounting.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, advanced formulas).
  • Experience with ERP systems; experience with [Specify your ERP, e.g., SAP, Oracle] is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.

Preferred (Nice-to-Have):

  • Professional certification (CMA - Certified Management Accountant) or progress towards one.
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or desire to obtain.
  • Experience with activity-based costing (ABC) or job costing methodologies.
  • Advanced data analysis skills (Power BI, SQL, etc.).
