Role Purpose:
The Senior BESS Consultant will lead technical consulting, engineering review, and advisory services for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects.
This position is central to delivering highquality consulting engineering, The role includes feasibility studies, performance evaluation, design & detailed review, risk assessment, and support for IPPbased energy storage developments.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Technical Consulting & Advisory for BESS Projects
- Provide expert technical consultation across all phases of BESS projects—from concept to commissioning.
- Lead feasibility studies, due diligence, and independent engineering reviews for IPP clients.
- Advise on technology selection, system sizing, and integration strategies, consistent with industry practices for BESS consultants .
- Provide technical oversight for of BESS systems.
2. BESS Performance Analysis & Evaluation
- Analyze and evaluate BESS system performance, including:
- Battery chemistry and degradation
- Charge/discharge cycles
- Roundtrip efficiency
- Thermal management
- Review vendor technical documentation and validate compliance with project requirements.
3. Engineering Design & Design Review
- Review detailed engineering designs for:
- Battery containers and enclosures
- PCS (Power Conversion System)
- Transformers and switchgear
- Protection and control systems
- SCADA and communication systems
- Ensure designs comply with IEC, IEEE, UL, and local grid code requirements.
4. Grid Integration & Interconnection Support
- Evaluate BESS grid compliance, including:
- Frequency response
- Voltage support
- Blackstart capability
- Fault ridethrough
- Support grid impact studies and interconnection applications.
5. Quality & Risk Assessment
- Conduct risk assessments related to safety, thermal runaway, system reliability, and construction risks.
- Participate in QA/QC audits and ensure adherence to engineering and safety standards.
- Conduct site inspections to verify compliance with approved designs and safety protocols.
6. Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Prepare highquality technical reports, feasibility studies, and advisory documents.
- Coordinate with IPPs, EPC contractors, utilities, and internal engineering teams.
- Represent the company in meetings, workshops, and regulatory consultations.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Renewable Energy, or related engineering field.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in BESS engineering, energy storage consulting, or related fields.
- Proven experience in:
- BESS technical evaluation
- Energy storage system design
- IPP project development
- Technical consulting for utilityscale storage
- Strong understanding of battery technologies (Liion, LFP, NMC, etc.).
- Proficiency with modeling tools and vendor platforms.
- Excellent communication and technical reporting skills.
Preferred
- Master's degree in Power Systems or Energy Storage.
- Experience with international consulting firms.
- Familiarity with EPC contract review and asset management practices (similar to BESS Technical Asset Manager roles) .
- Experience in commissioning and performance testing.
