About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to provide independent, high-quality geotechnical expertise. This will include supporting company assets by governing rock mechanics, ground control, excavation stability, and geotechnical risk management. You will also be contributing to technical due diligence, growth studies, and code-compliant technical reporting. The role exists to protect safety, mine life, and asset value by ensuring geotechnical designs and assumptions are robust, conservative, and fit-for-purpose, without pressure from day-to-day operations.
Responsibilities
- Geotechnical design standards and governance for underground and surface excavations.
- Stope design & sequencing
- Ground control strategies for stopes, development, shafts, ramps, and infrastructure
- Geotechnical inputs to LOM, mine planning, and mining method selection
- Backfill and paste fill geotechnical design criteria and assurance
- Geotechnical risk identification, assessment, and mitigation planning
- Geotechnical inputs to technical studies, capex projects, and infrastructure design
- Geotechnical inputs to technical due diligence for asset acquisitions and divestments
- Geotechnical contributions to compliant reports
- Independent review and assurance of third-party geotechnical studies and designs
Qualifications
- Degree in Geotechnical Engineering / Mining Engineering / Rock Mechanics
- 20+ years of mining experience, with 10-12 years in geotechnical or related roles
Required Skills
- Strong hands-on experience with geotechnical software (e.g., Rock science, FLAC, RS2, UDEC, or equivalent)
- Strong underground mining experience in large-scale, mechanized operations
- Experience in deep mines, including backfilling or paste fill, preferred
- Recognized Competent Person (CP) / Qualified Person (QP), or demonstrably eligible
- Ground control and excavation stability
- Geotechnical inputs to LOM and mine planning
- Technical studies and geotechnical assurance
- Experience supporting technical due diligence and asset evaluation
- Ability to challenge assumptions independently and communicate the risks clearly
- Experience working in turnaround or stressed operations preferred
- High professional credibility and strong safety mindset
