Senior Interior Designer Material Scope
The Senior Interior Designer is responsible for leading the material strategy of projects from concept through execution, ensuring that all physical samples, material boards, and finishes align with the design intent, budget, and technical requirements. This role requires strong market knowledge, close relationships with suppliers and manufacturers, and an up-to-date understanding of innovative and emerging materials. The Senior Interior Designer acts as the key point of reference for material quality, availability, compliance, and constructability, supporting both the design team and project stakeholders in making informed decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of physical material samples, mock-ups, and comprehensive material boards for all project stages.
- Curate and validate material selections in line with design concept, durability, sustainability, cost, and maintenance requirements.
- Maintain strong knowledge of local and international suppliers, manufacturers, lead times, and alternative options.
- Stay informed on the latest materials, finishes, systems, and market trends, introducing innovative solutions where appropriate.
- Coordinate closely with suppliers, contractors, and consultants to ensure materials are technically compliant and feasible for execution.
- Review and approve shop drawings, samples, and material submittals to ensure consistency with approved design intent.
- Provide value-engineering options and material alternatives without compromising design quality.
- Oversee material benchmarking, sample libraries, and internal material databases.
- Support junior designers by guiding material research, selection processes, and supplier engagement.
- Ensure all selected materials comply with relevant codes, standards, and project specifications.
