Reports to: Technical Operations Manager and Industrial Liaison
Purpose:
The job holder is responsible for supervising the assigned labs, providing the necessary support for faculty, researchers, teaching assistants, graduate and undergraduate students, and external customers, including supervising the installation, operation and maintenance of lab equipment, assisting in procurement vendors including market surveys and the collection of price quotations, training equipment users, supervising equipment operation, setting up and managing the equipment operation schedule, organizing work flow, ensuring lab safety and represent the Department of Mechanical Engineering in university and school events. In addition, the job holder is responsible for assisting instructors of courses to which he or she is assigned as a teaching assistant in facilitating learning activities inside and outside the classroom and the laboratory.
Responsibilities:
- Assist faculty in selecting different required equipment for courses
- Assist in establishing and maintaining links with vendors of equipment, supplies, and technical services
- Assist in managing maintenance operations and contracting for the department
- Supervise the assigned labs
- Ensure assigned labs readiness for any technical task within its predetermined mission
- Operate and maintain all assigned labs assets, such as machines, equipment, tools and infrastructure
- Procure consumables or simple supplies from local market vendors and perform any required market survey
- Contact the vendors to get price quotations for any required items
- Assist in preparing the technical data and documents for accreditation reports
- Maintain an updated inventory of all lab items
- Prepare equipment operational, maintenance and safety guides
- Provide proper training for Teaching Assistants (TAs), Research Assistants (RAs) and students on all lab assets as needed
- Assist in setting and conducting experiments in the assigned labs
- Assist the faculty members in the development of lab manuals and procedures
- Facilitate the projects or research endeavors of the undergraduate or graduate students, in their thesis as well as researchers and professors in their research activities or grants and engineering services
- Keep awareness and reporting of new or required developments in his supervised equipment or machines
- Keep continuous training of his subordinates making sure they all are competent using all the labs assets
- Ensure safe and clean work environment within the assigned labs and its premises in coordination with the AUC health and safety department
- Carry out all duties related to a teaching assistantship, including correcting assignments, projects, handling students attendance and following up with projects
- Conduct experiments in the lab and explain them to the students
- Assist in research, grants and engineering and science services
- Organize workflow to ensure the smooth functioning and operations of the labs so that neither the teaching nor the research is delayed
Requirements:
Minimum Education Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering, majoring in design and production or materials engineering is required
- Masters degree in a related field is a plus
Experience:
- A minimum of two years of experience in a related field
