Role Description
We are looking for a Senior Spring Boot Backend Developer to join our engineering team in a full-time remote role.
You will own the design, development, and evolution of backend services built with Java and Spring Boot. You will architect and implement scalable microservices, design and maintain RESTful APIs, and ensure our systems are robust, secure, and high-performing. Beyond hands-on development, you will help set technical direction, review code, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ship impactful features.
We are especially interested in candidates who can join immediately or on very short notice.
Responsibilities
- Architect, design, develop, and maintain backend applications using Java and Spring Boot
- Lead the design and implementation of scalable, secure microservices and RESTful APIs
- Define and enforce coding standards, best practices, and architectural guidelines
- Collaborate with frontend, QA, DevOps, and ML teams to deliver complex, end-to-end features
- Perform in-depth debugging, root-cause analysis, and production issue resolution
- Optimize services for performance, scalability, reliability, and observability
- Conduct thorough code reviews and provide constructive feedback to the team
- Mentor and support junior and mid-level engineers, helping them grow technically
- Contribute to technical roadmap planning and participate in system design discussions
- Help improve our development workflows, tooling, and CI/CD processes
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot in production systems
- Strong experience building and operating backend web applications and microservice-based architectures
- Solid understanding of RESTful API design, security best practices, and distributed systems concepts
- Strong experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and practical exposure to NoSQL datastores
- Proficiency with Git and modern development workflows (branching, pull requests, code reviews, trunk-based or Gitflow)
- Deep understanding of software engineering principles, OOP, and common design patterns
- Experience with performance profiling, optimization, and troubleshooting in production environments
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a high sense of ownership
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a remote, distributed team
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins)
- Strong knowledge of Docker and containerized applications; experience with Kubernetes is a plus
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including managed services (RDS, messaging, caching, etc.)
- Experience with monitoring and observability (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, OpenTelemetry)
- Exposure to integrating AI/ML systems into backend services (model serving, feature stores, data pipelines, etc.)
- Prior experience in startup or fast-paced environments, comfortable with ambiguity and rapid iteration
- Experience leading small engineering initiatives or projects end-to-end
