The Senior Structural Engineer is responsible for leading and managing structural design activities from concept through detailed design and IFC stages, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective, and code-compliant solutions. The role also includes partial site supervision responsibilities, acting as a key technical link between design and construction teams.
1. Structural Design & Technical Leadership
- Lead and manage the structural design process from concept, schematic, detailed design, to IFC stages.
- Analyze project requirements and define appropriate structural design criteria and specifications.
- Evaluate and recommend cost-effective structural systems aligned with architectural intent and project constraints.
- Prepare and review structural calculations, analysis models, and comprehensive design reports.
- Utilize advanced structural software such as ETABS, SAFE, and other relevant tools for analysis and design.
2. BIM & Digital Design
- Develop and review structural models and drawings using Revit (BIM) ensuring accuracy and coordination.
- Ensure full integration of structural models with architectural and MEP disciplines.
- Maintain BIM standards and contribute to digital engineering practices within the organization.
3. Coordination & Multidisciplinary Integration
- Review soil investigation reports and coordinate with geotechnical engineers to ensure appropriate foundation design.
- Coordinate closely with architectural and MEP teams to resolve design clashes and ensure constructability.
- Participate in coordination meetings with internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders.
4. Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure all structural designs comply with local authority regulations and international codes and standards (e.g., ACI, BS, Eurocodes).
- Conduct design reviews and ensure QA/QC standards are maintained throughout project lifecycle.
- Review shop drawings and material submittals where required.
5. Site Supervision (Partial Role)
- Provide technical support during construction phases, including site visits and inspections.
- Ensure structural works are executed in accordance with approved drawings and specifications.
- Address site technical queries and coordinate with contractors to resolve structural issues.
- Act as a bridge between design office and site teams to ensure smooth project execution.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in civil Engineering (master's degree is an advantage).
- Minimum 8–12 years of experience in structural design within engineering consultancy firms.
- Proven experience in building projects (commercial, residential, mixed-use, etc.).
- Experience in GCC (UAE/KSA) is highly preferred.
Technical Skills
Strong expertise in:
- ETABS, SAFE, SAP2000 (or equivalent)
- Revit (essential)
- Structural analysis and design software
- Strong knowledge of international design codes (ACI, Eurocode, BS).
- Familiarity with BIM workflows and multidisciplinary coordination.
