External Job Description
Role Purpose
To support the assembly, installation, testing, and maintenance of mechanical systems within engine programs and test facilities.
The role focuses on executing precise, hands-on mechanical work to ensure all components and systems meet engineering specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements. The position plays a critical role in maintaining system integrity, supporting testing activities, and ensuring reliable operation of mechanical equipment.
Key Accountabilities
Mechanical Assembly & Maintenance
- Assemble mechanical components, sub-systems, and structural elements in accordance with engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
- Perform installation, alignment, and fitment of mechanical systems including piping, fixtures, and rotating equipment.
- Conduct routine maintenance, servicing, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems, assemblies, and test rigs.
- Support disassembly and reassembly of engine components for inspection, maintenance, and testing activities.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments to achieve required tolerances and specifications.
Testing & Operations Support
- Assist in the preparation, setup, and commissioning of mechanical systems for engine testing.
- Support leak testing, pressure testing, and functional system checks.
- Monitor mechanical performance during testing and report any abnormalities or deviations.
- Collaborate with engineers to implement design changes, modifications, and improvements during test cycles.
Workshop & Equipment Handling
- Safely operate workshop machinery and equipment in line with operational procedures
- Maintain tools, equipment, and workspaces in a clean, organized, and serviceable condition
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and protection of mechanical components and materials
Safety & Compliance
- Adhere strictly to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards and procedures
- Ensure compliance with internal quality standards and applicable mechanical codes
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safe working practices at all times
Documentation & Reporting
- Accurately record assembly, maintenance, and test support activities.
- Report faults, defects, and non-conformances in a timely manner to supervisors or engineers.
- Maintain documentation for traceability, quality control, and audit purposes.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve assembly, maintenance, and testing processes
- Support implementation of best practices, efficiency improvements, and reliability enhancements
- Participate in training and development initiatives to enhance technical capability
- Requirements
- Diploma or certification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- 5–8 years of hands-on experience in mechanical assembly, maintenance, or industrial environments
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and mechanical schematics
- Experience working with mechanical systems, piping, and rotating equipment
- Familiarity with workshop tools, alignment methods, and precision measurement instruments
- Basic understanding of pressure systems and mechanical testing is advantageous
- Strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and quality-focused mindset
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
