This role is also being offered in Senegal.

Duties and Accountabilities

The work to be undertaken by the Consultant will include:

Appraising new Financial Intermediary (FI) investment proposals and supporting IFC's Financial Institution team throughout the project preparation on E&S requirements.

Providing expert advice and communicate IFC requirements to private sector clients and investment staff to achieve positive sustainable development outcomes.

Supervising environmental and social performance of specific allocated FI projects.

Assisting in the delivery of annual supervision work plans for projects including coordination with regional departments.

Maintaining and updating IFC management systems and tools relating to FI investments.

Designing and delivering of learning programs on sustainability and environmental risk management for FIs and IFC staff.

Working on the development of tools, checklists and guidelines to improve efficiencies of project processing and enable improved client management of environmental and social issues.

Working with other International Financial Institutions (IFIs) to synergize efforts on FI training and capacity building and harmonization of requirements on projects.

Identify and synthesize lessons learned on trends, case studies and good practices and support other research needs in connection with complaint portfolio and issues arising under IFC's Sustainability Framework and other E&S policies and procedures, including any updates with respect to such policies and procedures.

Assistance with review and advice on internal procedures, knowledge products and E&S tools produced for both internal and external consumption, consistent with IFC's Sustainability Framework and other IFC policies as needed.

Selection Criteria

Post-graduate in relevant discipline (environmental, social sciences, science, engineering).

Minimum of ten years of practical experience in environmental and/or social management and

assessment including experience in the financial sector.

Familiarity with IFC/World Bank operations, procedures, and culture will be advantageous.

Knowledge of IFC Sustainability Framework and Performance Standards a plus.

Must have a deep understanding of management systems in general, and environmental

management systems in particular.

Experience/familiarity with indicators capturing effectiveness of environmental and social management in the context of FIs.

Experience with international banks and/or bilateral/multilateral development institutions.

Exemplary project management skills and ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.

Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing circumstances, organize and prioritize deliverables, and maintain attention to detail.

Ability to develop analyze and articulate project issues.

Ability to diagnose problems and propose reliable solutions both internally and externally.

Knowledge of private sector environment in different countries in particular, banking.

Familiarity with financial sector products and how they operate.

Ability to carry out work with due care, preparing accurate documents and reports, ensuring that pertinent facts are fairly presented. Interpret information in an objective manner.

Experience working in developing countries, preferably in Cross-Country and Multinational Education (CCME).

Ability to communicate effectively and concisely in spoken and written English and French is essential. Proficiency in Arabic is a plus.

Excellent interpersonal, listening and communication skills including the ability to relate well with a wide range of internal & external parties and seek solutions in potentially tense or conflictual situations.

Ability to operate as a member of a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team.

The daily rate will be determined based on the qualifications and prior experience of the consultant. Compensation is made on a net basis. This is a local, short-term consulting position.

The assignment is expected to begin in May 2025 and ending June 30, 2025; an extension may be possible starting July 1, 2025.
