Job Description

Job Summary: The Staff Cost Accountant is responsible for tracking, analysing, and reporting all employee-related costs, including salaries, wages, benefits, bonuses, and labor allocations. This role ensures that employee cost data is accurately recorded in financial systems and supports labor cost planning, internal reporting, and cost control initiatives. The position works closely with HR, payroll, operations, and cost accounting teams to provide insights into labor cost drivers and trends.

Key Responsibilities:

Employee Cost Tracking & Accounting

  • Monitor and record employee-related expenses (salaries, benefits, bonuses, overtime, and allowances).
  • Ensure labor costs are properly allocated to departments, projects, cost centers, or products.
  • Reconcile payroll data with the general ledger and cost accounting systems.
  • Track headcount and compensation changes that impact financial reporting.

Payroll Integration & Reconciliation

  • Liaise with HR and payroll teams to validate payroll data before posting to financial systems.
  • Perform reconciliations between payroll reports and accounting entries.
  • Support payroll-related accruals (e.g., unused leave, bonuses, social security contributions).

Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare regular reports on employee cost trends by department, project, or business unit.
  • Provide variance analysis between actual, budgeted, and forecasted employee costs.
  • Contribute to monthly close processes and internal reporting packages.
  • Provide data to support cost allocation models and labor productivity metrics.

Budgeting & Forecasting Support

  • Assist FP&A in forecasting labor costs and supporting workforce budgeting.
  • Provide detailed labor cost breakdowns for operating and capital expenditure budgets.
  • Track actual performance against budget and highlight variances for management action.

Audit & Compliance

  • Ensure accurate documentation and traceability for all employee cost transactions.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing reconciliations and backup for employee cost entries.
  • Ensure compliance with local labor laws, tax regulations, and accounting standards.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 35 years of experience in staff cost accounting, payroll accounting, or financial reporting roles.
  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle) and payroll platforms.
  • Knowledge of labor cost accounting, employee benefits, and payroll compliance.
