The Steel Estimation Engineer is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, material take-offs, and pricing for structural steel and miscellaneous steel works. This role requires technical expertise in reading and interpreting drawings, strong analytical skills for quantity estimation, and a deep understanding of fabrication and erection processes to ensure cost-effective and competitive bids.
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed quantity take-offs and comprehensive cost estimates for structural and miscellaneous steel works, including materials, fabrication, erection, coatings, and transportation.
- Review tender documents, drawings, and specifications to identify project scope, requirements, and potential risks.
- Analyze labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs, and develop value engineering options to optimize cost efficiency.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Procurement, and Production teams to ensure alignment between estimation and execution.
- Liaise with clients, consultants, and suppliers to gather technical and commercial data during the tendering phase.
- Prepare technical and commercial proposals with clear cost summaries, assumptions, and clarifications.
- Maintain updated cost records, supplier databases, and monitor market trends to ensure competitive pricing.
- Recommend process improvements and stay up to date with new materials, technologies, and fabrication techniques in the steel industry
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Structural Engineering.
- 3 years of experience in steel structure estimation or fabrication industry.
- Strong knowledge of structural steel materials, fabrication methods, welding, surface finishing, and erection techniques.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Tekla, or similar tools for quantity extraction.
- Experience with estimation and costing software (e.g., Excel-based templates, Candy, or similar).
- Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and report-writing abilities.
- Experience in PEB (Pre-Engineered Buildings) or Mechanical Steel Structures.
- Familiarity with international standards (AISC, ASTM, BS, or EN).
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple tenders simultaneously.
- Attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and consistency
