Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Storage and Backup Administrator with a minimum of 8 years of enterprise infrastructure experience to support and manage mission-critical storage and data protection environments.
The role involves administration of enterprise backup platforms, SAN/NAS storage infrastructure, disaster recovery operations, and ensuring compliance with organizational security and data protection policies.
The candidate should possess strong operational expertise in backup technologies (preferably Veeam) and enterprise storage platforms, along with experience supporting large-scale production environments.
Key Responsibilities
Backup Management
- Administration and management of enterprise backup platforms such as Veeam, Commvault,
- NetBackup, or similar solutions (Veeam expertise preferred).
- Monitor and manage backup jobs, ensuring successful execution and resolving failures or performance
- issues.
- Configure and optimize backup policies in alignment with business and compliance requirements.
- Handle backup restore requests, ensuring timely validation and successful recovery.
- Conduct periodic recovery testing to verify backup integrity and restore readiness.
- Coordinate and execute disaster recovery (DR) drills and recovery testing.
- Perform backup capacity planning to ensure adequate storage resources for data protection.
- Generate operational reports for backup success rates, capacity usage, and SLA compliance.
- Implement and maintain ransomware protection mechanisms, including immutable backup
- repositories.
- Storage Management
- Administration and operational support for enterprise SAN/NAS storage platforms such as NetApp,
- Dell EMC, HPE, Pure Storage, or equivalent technologies.
- Perform LUN provisioning, allocation, and mapping to servers and virtualization platforms.
- Monitor storage performance and implement performance tuning to optimize system efficiency.
- Conduct capacity planning and forecasting to support future infrastructure growth.
- Execute firmware upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management of storage systems.
- Manage replication, snapshot, and data protection features across storage arrays.
- Support cloud storage integrations and hybrid storage environments where applicable.
- Troubleshoot storage-related incidents and perform root cause analysis.
Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity
- Develop and maintain Disaster Recovery (DR) documentation and runbooks.
- Ensure alignment with defined Recovery Point Objective (RPO) and Recovery Time Objective (RTO)
- targets.
- Coordinate and participate in DR testing and simulation exercises.
- Support failover and failback procedures during DR events.
- Assist in DR audits and compliance verification activities.
Security & Compliance
- Implement and maintain backup encryption for data at rest and in transit.
- Manage Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) for backup and storage platforms.
- Ensure proper audit logging and monitoring for backup and storage activities.
- Support compliance reporting aligned with frameworks such as ISO, SOC, HIPAA, GDPR, or similar
- standards.
- Enforce data retention policies and governance requirements.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 8+ years of experience in enterprise storage and backup administration.
- Strong hands-on experience with Veeam Backup & Replication (highly preferred).
- Experience with other backup solutions such as Commvault, Veritas NetBackup, or equivalent.
- Hands-on experience managing SAN/NAS storage systems from major vendors.
- Experience with backup architecture, DR planning, and recovery procedures.
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
- Experience in large enterprise or datacenter environments.
- Good understanding of data protection, ransomware mitigation, and immutable backups.
Preferred Qualifications
- Vendor certifications such as:
- Veeam Certified Engineer (VMCE)
- NetApp / Dell EMC / HPE Storage certifications
- Relevant backup or storage certifications
- Experience supporting virtualized environments (VMware / Hyper-V / KVM).
- Exposure to cloud backup and storage platforms (AWS, Azure, or similar).
