We are looking for a Structural Design Engineer to take full responsibility for the engineering validation, structural design, and force calculations of our door systems and architectural products.
This role is critical to ensuring that very large-format doors, aluminium exterior doors, interior doors, wall cladding systems, and any future products are safe, compliant, durable, and optimized for manufacturing and real world use.
The engineer will define the structural logic behind each product, calculate loads and stresses, validate hardware and fixing systems, and ensure full compliance with relevant European and international standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities
Perform structural analysis and force calculations for:
- Very large and heavy doors
- Aluminium exterior doors
- Interior doors (hinged, pivot, flush-to-wall)
- Wall cladding and architectural systems
Calculate:
- Self-weight loads
- Wind loads
- Opening/closing forces
- Deflection limits
- Fatigue and long-term performance
- Design and validate:
- Door leaf structures
- Frames and subframes
- Reinforcements (steel/aluminium/composite)
- Fixing and anchoring systems to walls and slabs
Compliance & Standards
Ensure all products comply with applicable European and international norms, including but not limited to:
- EN 14351-1 Windows and doors (performance characteristics)
- EN 19901999 (Eurocodes):
- EN 1991 Actions on structures (wind, self-weight)
- EN 1993 Steel structures
- EN 1999 Aluminum structures
- EN 13126 / EN 1935 Door hardware and hinges
- EN 16271630 Resistance to forced entry (where applicable)
- EN 1191 / EN 12400 Mechanical durability testing of doors
- EN ISO 10140 / 717 Acoustic performance (coordination support)
- EN ISO 10077 Thermal performance (coordination support)
- CE marking requirements for doors and architectural systems
Product Development & Validation
-Define engineering rules and limits for product configurations (size, weight, material).
Approve:
- Maximum door dimensions
- Maximum allowable weights per hinge or pivot system
- Support prototype development and testing:
- Lab testing
- Field performance validation
Prepare: Technical reports, Calculation notes and Engineering drawings and specifications.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with: Industrial design, Manufacturing and CNC teams,Hardware suppliers (hinges, pivots, automation), External consultants or testing laboratories
- Translate engineering results into clear guidelines for designers and production teams.
Future Product Engineering
- Establish a repeatable engineering framework for all future products.
- Evaluate new materials, systems, and construction methods.
- Participate in innovation and value engineering initiatives.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Civil Engineering (with a strong structural focus).
- Minimum 510 years of experience in a structural or mechanical engineering role, preferably within doors, facades, architectural systems, or construction products.
- Strong knowledge of structural mechanics, strength of materials, aluminum and steel.
- Proven experience working with large moving elements such as large doors, facades, curtain walls, industrial gates, or heavy architectural systems.
- Proficiency in engineering tools including Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus, SAP2000, Robot Structural Analysis, or similar) and CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, Rhino, or similar).
- Ability to perform hand calculations and provide clear engineering justifications, not relying solely on software simulations.
- Proven experience working with Eurocodes and familiarity with CE marking processes.
- Understanding of testing methodologies and certification processes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset with the ability to work independently and take ownership of technical decisions.
