Job Description

Works with students, parents, and educators to help the students succeed academically and socially. They provide one-on-one emotional guidance and help students plan for their futures by guiding them in building a career.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in psychology or social worker or a bachelor's degree in a subject matter and a post graduate degree (at least advance diploma) in a field related to counselling.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists the Education Executive Officer and the school principal in ensuring high quality professional practice, (specially in ensuring a safe and healthy environment for students learning).

• Evaluates students abilities and interests through performance on assessments, interviews, and information collated from relevant stakeholders (teachers, parents, classmates, etc.)

• Identifies issues that affect school performance, such as poor classroom attendance rates

• Helps students understand and overcome social or behavioral problems through guidance lessons and counseling

• Counsels individuals and small groups on the basis of student and school needs

• Works with students to develop skills, such as organizational and time management abilities and effective study habits

• Helps students create a plan to achieve academic and career goals

• Collaborates with teachers, administrators, and parents to help students succeed

• Teaches students and school staff about specific topics, such as bullying, drug abuse

• Maintains records as required

• Assists with conflict mediation and resolution between students, students and teachers, or parents and teachers to ensure a healthy and constructive learning environment

• Advises students and parents to resources outside the school for additional support

• Participates in school self-evaluation and contributes in developing school improvement plans

• Enrolls and participates in the respective professional development programs.
