KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Regulatory Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure full compliance with all local, national, and international environmental regulations.
- Maintain and update environmental permits, licenses, and documentation.
- Prepare and submit timely environmental reports to regulatory bodies and internal stakeholders.
Environmental Monitoring & Control
- Oversee monitoring of emissions, effluents, waste, and resource usage (water, energy).
- Implement and maintain environmental and energy management systems in line with ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 standards. This includes the on-site delivery as well as the implementation of policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular site audits and inspections to identify risks and improvement opportunities.
Sustainability & Continuous Improvement
- Develop and implement site-specific sustainability strategies aligned with corporate goals.
- Lead initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, and overall waste generation.
- Drive energy efficiency improvements and support the implementation of energy management systems under ISO 50001.
- Collaborate with procurement and operations to improve supply chain sustainability.
Waste & Food Waste Management
- Develop and implement strategies to measure, monitor, and reduce all forms of waste, including food waste, packaging, and operational by-products.
- Work with cross-functional teams to identify waste sources and implement reduction initiatives.
- Ensure waste segregation, recycling, and disposal practices meet environmental standards and company targets.
- Support reporting of waste metrics in line with corporate and regulatory sustainability frameworks.
Data Collection & Reporting
- Lead the collection, validation, and consolidation of environmental and sustainability data from all relevant internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure accurate and timely data submission to meet corporate and regulatory sustainability reporting requirements (e.g., GHG Protocol, CDP, SBTi).
- Support the development of dashboards and KPIs to track environmental performance.
- Work with stakeholders across the business to support the collection of relevant supplier data
Incident Management & Risk Mitigation
- Lead investigations into environmental incidents and non-compliance events.
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans for environmental hazards.
- Train staff on environmental awareness and best practices.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Liaise with local communities, regulators, and NGOs on environmental matters. Maintain any relevant permits.
- Support internal communications and training on environmental policies and performance.
- Represent the site in group-wide sustainability forums and working groups.
PERFORMANCE MEASURES
1. Compliance & Audit Performance
- Zero non-compliances in environmental audits or inspections.
- Timely submission of all environmental reports and permits.
- ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 certification status maintained or improved.
2. Waste & Food Waste Reduction
- % reduction in total waste generated (year-on-year).
- % of waste diverted from landfill (e.g., through recycling or reuse).
- % reduction in food waste per tonne of product processed.
- Implementation of food waste tracking systems across departments.
3. Energy & Resource Efficiency
- Reduction in energy consumption per unit of production.
- Improvement in energy performance indicators under ISO 50001.
- Reduction in water usage per tonne of product.
4. Sustainability Reporting & Data Quality
- Accuracy and completeness of sustainability data submitted for corporate reporting.
- Timeliness of stakeholder data collection (internal and external).
- Number of reporting errors or data gaps identified during review.
