System Administrator and Cybersecurity

Job purpose

A Systems Administrator is responsible for the smooth, timely configuration and maintenance of an organization's computer systems. The role usually sits within the IT department but works closely with a number of teams throughout the business to ensure unified performance and operation.

A Systems Administrator job description must highlight the need for thorough technical knowledge, as well as an ability to work independently, whilst manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Duties and responsibilities

1. Plan, implement, oversee and maintain server and network infrastructures and projects.
2. Design, install and configure internal and customer facing servers, network devices and firewalls.
3. Proactively manage and maintain server, network and firewall systems
4. Administer and support core Microsoft, Cisco, Citrix and VMware technologies
5. Develop and implement project plans, risk assessments and contingency plans
6. Design and implement monitoring, configuration management and reporting functions that will make a hands-off environment
7. Define and document best practices and support procedures
8. Provide after-hours support for Infrastructure related emergencies as well occasional weekend maintenance
9. Maintain inventory and asset configuration documentation
10. Assist with hardware, firewall, telecom and software vendor evaluation, recommendation and negotiations
11. Mentor / cross train team members on existing and new technologies
12. To provide telephone, e-mail and remote support to all IT users, solving their problems and providing procedural documentation as required.
13. Carry out special tasks at Management's direction
14. System monitoring
15. New accounts set-up and active directory administration
16. Design new computer systems system and server performance
17. Run reports on system performance for team and wider organization
18. Optimize processes and lead process improvement
19. Manage staff and user credentials and frameworks
20. Troubleshoot technical issues
21. Create and implement training for staff
22. Coordinate and provide support for Firewall and network system
23. Ensure systems are secure and protected from breach or viruses
24. Risk mitigation planning

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience is required.

Qualifications include:

1. Microsoft Certification (MCSE) or equivalent certification in relevant programs desired.
2. Advanced knowledge of Windows Server (2008/2012) /desktop Operating Systems (8/10)
3. Managing in excess of 50 Windows Server infrastructure
4. Managing deployments/rollouts
5. Managing large scale Citrix/2X/Terminal Server installations
6. Managing server virtualization technologies like VMWare Server/ESX or Microsoft HyperV/Virtual Server
7. A solid understanding of LAN/WAN networking
8. Cisco Certified Network Associate or Professional -CCNA/ CCNP MCITP Server
9. Group Policy design and configuration
10. Microsoft IIS administration and configuration
11. Migration of Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2016
12. Firewall administrator
13. Linux/Solaris administration
14. Active Directory/LDAP user and group administration
15. Ability to troubleshoot network issues including back bone infrastructure issues
16. LAN Routing and Switching design, configuration and troubleshooting (VLANs, IP Subnetting, 802.1Qtrunks)
17. Strong communication and documentation skills
18. Flexible and able to adapt to a rapidly changing environment
19. Must be organized and have the ability to manage projects of varying length
20. Positive, self-motivated individual who can complete tasks independently
21. Must be a team player.
