The Talend Engineer is responsible for designing, building, deploying, and operating Talend-based integration pipelines that deliver reliable, timely data across Cedar Rose's platforms. The role ensures Talend jobs and environments (Dev/Test/Prod) are stable, secure, and performance-optimized, supporting both BAU delivery and the Talend Recovery & Delivery programme.
This role is hands-on and delivery-focused, with ownership of Talend implementations, runtime operations (Remote Engines), monitoring, and production support.
Key Responsibilities
Talend Job Development & Delivery
Design and develop Talend jobs to ingest, transform, validate, and deliver data to target stores (SQL DBs / warehouses / file outputs).
Implement reusable frameworks (joblets, contexts, metadata, components standards) to accelerate delivery and improve consistency.
Ensure jobs follow best practices for error handling, restartability, logging, and parameterization.
Maintain version control and promote changes through environments using agreed release processes.
Environment & Runtime Operations (TMC + Remote Engines)
Configure and maintain Talend Management Console (TMC) and runtime infrastructure (Remote Engines) across Dev/Test/Prod.
Manage environment configuration (contexts, secrets, credentials, endpoints, certificates) and ensure secure handling of sensitive values.
Monitor runtime health and troubleshoot execution failures, engine connectivity, scheduling issues, and performance bottlenecks.
Coordinate deployments, upgrades, and patching with internal IT and external Talend partners.
Integration with Upstream/Downstream Platforms
Build and maintain reliable integrations between Talend and upstream sources (e.g., ADIP outputs, crawling servers, APIs, file drops).
Ensure robust loading to downstream targets (SQL Server, lakehouse/warehouse, product outputs).
Diagnose cross-platform failures end-to-end (source Talend target), ensuring incidents are resolved quickly with clear RCA.
Data Quality, Controls & Observability
Implement data validations and control checks (schema validation, row counts, null thresholds, reconciliation checks).
Ensure logging is meaningful and standardized (run status, runtime metrics, rejected records, error context).
Create operational dashboards/alerts (where applicable) to detect failures early and reduce manual monitoring.
Maintain runbooks and operational procedures for critical pipelines.
Performance & Reliability Engineering
Optimize Talend jobs for performance and stability (parallelization, bulk loading patterns, batching, connection management).
Improve reliability through retries, checkpoints, idempotent patterns, and controlled rollback strategies.
Reduce operational load by automating repetitive tasks and eliminating recurring incidents.
Collaboration & Change Coordination
Work closely with Data Engineering, Data Governance/Stewardship, and business stakeholders to deliver stable outputs.
Coordinate with external Talend delivery teams/partners on implementation, defects, and roadmap improvements.
Communicate clearly on release impacts, risks, dependencies, and production readiness.
Skills & Experience
Essential
Strong hands-on Talend experience (job design, debugging, optimization, best practices).
Experience deploying and operating Talend in enterprise environments (TMC, Remote Engines, contexts).
Solid SQL knowledge for troubleshooting, validation, and performance tuning.
Strong production support mindset: incident triage, root cause analysis, and preventative fixes.
Experience working with structured/unstructured sources (files, APIs, DBs) and integrating across systems.
Desirable
Experience with CI/CD for Talend (Git workflows, promotion strategies, release governance).
Familiarity with data quality frameworks and operational monitoring/alerting.
Experience working within recovery/remediation programmes while maintaining BAU delivery.
Knowledge of security practices for credentials, secrets, and access management.
