Role OverviewThe Technical Design Manager is the senior technical authority within the engineering consultancy, responsible for leading and supervising all design activities across architectural and engineering disciplines.
The role ensures that all deliverables are technically sound, fully coordinated, compliant with Saudi Building Code and local regulations, and aligned with best consultancy practices. The position also oversees building permit processes and acts as the main interface between the design team, clients, and authorities.
Key Responsibilities1. Consultancy Design Leadership
- Lead the technical design process from concept to IFC stage for all projects.
- Direct architects, structural, and MEP engineers in producing integrated designs.
- Establish consultancy design standards, procedures, and templates.
- Ensure consistency between calculations, drawings, specifications, and reports.
- Review design strategies, value engineering proposals, and material selections.
2. Technical Quality Control
- Act as final reviewer of all engineering deliverables before issuance.
- Ensure full coordination between:
- Architectural
- Structural
- MEP
- Infrastructure
- Verify compliance with:
- Saudi Building Code (SBC)
- International standards (BS, NFPA, ASHRAE, ACI, etc.)
- Client design briefs and contracts
- Lead internal design audits and peer reviews.
3. Building Permit & Authority Supervision
(Consultancy Scope)
- Manage preparation of design permit packages in line with Balady/MOMRAH requirements.
- Supervise submission drawings, calculations, and technical reports.
- Coordinate with:
- Municipalities
- Civil Defense
- Utility providers
- Third-party reviewers
- Respond to authority comments and design modifications.
- Ensure approved permit design matches final IFC documentation.
- Maintain approval schedules and compliance records.
4. Multidisciplinary Coordination
- Lead design coordination meetings internally and with clients.
- Resolve interdisciplinary conflicts at design stage.
- Supervise BIM coordination and clash detection.
- Guide preparation of tender documents and BOQs.
5. Team Development
- Mentor engineers and architects in consultancy best practice.
- Assign tasks and monitor technical performance.
- Conduct design workshops and knowledge transfer.
- Support recruitment of design staff.
6. Client & Proposal Support
- Participate in technical presentations to clients.
- Support preparation of RFP responses and design methodologies.
- Define project design scopes, deliverables, and timelines.
RequirementsEducation
- Bachelor's/Master's in Architecture, or Civil Engineering.
Experience
- Minimum 10 years in a design engineering consultancy.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary design teams in KSA.
- Proven track record with Saudi permit approvals.
Technical Competencies
- Expert in: Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks
- Strong knowledge of SBC and international codes
- Design coordination & constructability
- Preparation of tender & IFC packages
