Job Description

The Technical Office Manager will be responsible for the overall leadership and management of the Technical Office Department, ensuring the accurate and compliant execution of all woodwork projects. This includes overseeing the preparation of shop drawings, cutting lists, quantity surveying, technical cost analysis, and effective coordination between design, production, site teams, and clients

Responsibilities

Technical Leadership and Management

  • Team Management: Lead, mentor, and evaluate the Technical Office team (Engineers, Draftsmen, QS) to ensure the highest levels of performance and accuracy.
  • Quality Assurance: Review and approve all Shop Drawings and Cutting Lists to ensure strict adherence to client designs, technical specifications, industry standards, and factory production capabilities.
  • Coordination: Serve as the main liaison between top management, the Production Department, Project Management, site teams, consultants, and clients to resolve technical and design challenges promptly.

. Technical Operations, Quantity Surveying, and Costing

  • Quantity Surveying (QS): Directly supervise the accurate preparation of detailed quantity take-offs for all raw materials, wooden components, and hardware required for projects.
  • Cost Analysis and Pricing:

Conduct technical analysis of material costs, production, and operational costs.

Contribute to preparing accurate technical and financial proposals and pricing for new projects based on design and quality requirements.

  • Material Management: Coordinate with the Procurement Department to define material and hardware requirements and ensure timely availability according to the project schedule.

Planning and Documentation

  • Scheduling: Prepare and monitor detailed Technical Office schedules, ensuring alignment with project delivery and production plans.
  • Submittals and Variations: Review and approve technical submittals and scrutinize any requested Variation Orders from the client, assessing their impact on cost, schedule, and specifications.
  • Documentation: Establish and maintain a robust technical documentation and archiving system for all project files, drawings, and correspondence.

. Specialized Industry Expertise

  • Material Knowledge: Possess excellent and up-to-date knowledge of all types of wood (solid, engineered), finishes, paints, and hardware specifications used in the furniture and joinery industry.
  • Manufacturing Process: Deep understanding of the manufacturing and production stages in wood factories to ensure that shop drawings are practical, buildable, and cost-effective.

Qualifications

[Bachelor's degree in Bachelor's degree, Applied Arts, or a related technical field.

A minimum of 10 years of experience in a Technical Office role, with at least 3-5 years in a managerial capacity (Technical Office Manager/Head) specifically within the woodworks, furniture, or joinery sector.

Advanced skills in quantity surveying and cost analysis software, especially Microsoft Excel.
