Overview of Role
The Test Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring that all tests are conducted with hazards and risks managed to an ALARP (As Low as Reasonably Practicable) and Tolerable level. The Test Safety Manager is not responsible in any way for the delivery of tests purely for the safe operation of tests, reporting directly to the Capability Manager.
This role is on-site and open to Expats (full relocation assistance provided).
Main Tasks & Responsibilities
Establish and maintain safety policies, standards, and procedures aligned with regulatory requirements and best practices (e.g., ISO 45001).
Monitor and ensure adherence to all applicable local, national, and international safety regulations.
Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies during audits or inspections. Maintain accurate records of compliance activities, audits, and incident reports.
For each trial: Identify, assess, and manage Xrange Trials and workplace safety risks through comprehensive risk assessments.
Develop and oversee the implementation of mitigation strategies for high-risk activities.
Continuously review and update risk management practices to adapt to changing conditions and operations. Review all safety paperwork and confirm to Capability Manager to approve or deny approval to all tests
Chair weekly hazardous activity scrutiny panels
Work with clients and test specialists to ensure weapon danger area and safety trace is accurate and auditable
Attend tests periodically to ensure that tests are being conducted in accordance with test plans and agreed risk mitigation strategies
Oversee the reporting, investigation, and analysis of safety incidents, including near-misses, injuries, and property damage.
Ensure timely completion of root cause analyses and implementation of corrective actions. Be the point of contact for the Range with regards to all test safety issues
Work with the Occupational Health and Safety Advisor
Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and compliance checks to evaluate performance.
Monitor the implementation of corrective actions arising from audits and inspections.
Report on safety performance to senior management and stakeholders.
Provide clear and transparent reporting on safety performance, risks, and improvements to mgmt.
Facilitate communication and coordination between departments, sites, and external entities on safety matters.
Use data analytics and reporting tools to provide actionable insights for decision-making.
