Underground Shift Supervisor

Jop Purpose:

Ensure that underground mining activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with mine plans, standards, and budgets. This includes supervising development and production activities, managing daily operations, supporting short-term mine planning, and enforcing operational discipline. The role ensures accurate reporting, safe work practices, and performance monitoring to contribute to sustainable gold production.

Job Description:

Pre‑Shift Leadership & Planning

• Conduct pre‑shift start‑up meetings, communicate production targets, and align crews with daily plans.

Production Oversight

• Monitor and coordinate drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, and other production activities to ensure adherence to operational plans.

Risk Management

• Apply risk‑assessment techniques to identify hazards and implement effective controls.

SOP Compliance

• Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with approved Standard Operating Procedures for underground mining activities.

Incident Investigation

• Lead or assist in root‑cause analysis for incidents and implement corrective actions promptly.

Data Management

• Maintain accurate records of production, development progress, and operational KPIs.

Mine Planning Input

• Contribute to short‑term mine planning and operational decision‑making.

Mentorship & Guidance

• Provide training, guidance, and performance feedback to team members.

Performance Optimization

• Identify and implement opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance safety.

Safety Leadership

• Lead safety observations, audits, and emergency‑preparedness drills.

Job Requirements

• Mine Supervisor Certification of Competence or an equivalent qualification.
• Minimum of 10 years of underground mining experience, preferably in operational leadership roles.
• Demonstrated experience in managing crews, supervising operations, and achieving production targets.
• Strong knowledge and practical experience in drill and blast techniques and underground mining methods.
• Solid understanding of underground mine planning, scheduling, and design principles.
• Experience with ventilation systems, backfill processes, and underground infrastructure systems including electrical and water reticulation.
• Proven experience in charge-up operations and safe handling of explosives.
• Ability to supervise bogging, load and haul activities, and underground production operations.
• Strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards, with experience in risk management and incident investigation.
• Ability to supervise development and production drilling activities.
• Experience in service crew coordination and operational oversight.
• Valid first aid certification.
• Proficiency in operating underground mining equipment and holding the relevant operating tickets where required.
• Good computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and mine design or mining-related software.
• Strong leadership, coaching, mentoring, and performance management skills.
• Good communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities in operational mining environments.
