Job Description

Job Title: Utility Technician

Reports to: Utility Superintendent

Business Unit: Manufacturing

Function: Engineering / Utilities Maintenance

Grade: TBD

Location: Dammam, KSA

Purpose of the Job :

To support maintenance operations by setting up, operating, and maintaining machining and workshop equipment, and by fabricating fixtures, tooling, and spare parts required for utilities, packaging, and process equipment.

The role contributes to equipment availability, reliability, cost efficiency, and safe workshop operations through effective machining practices, documentation, and continuous improvement.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Spare Parts Fabrication

  • Fabricate spare parts in accordance with approved work orders and technical specifications.
  • Study samples, drawings, blueprints, and engineering documents to determine machining methods, sequences, tolerances, and dimensions.
  • Operate standard milling machines, lathes, and other workshop equipment safely and effectively.
  • Ensure proper care and maintenance of machining equipment and tools.

Workshop Drawings & Documentation

  • Prepare shop drawings using AutoCAD or equivalent software.
  • Maintain proper filing and safekeeping of drawings, fabricated parts, tools, and technical documentation.
  • Ensure fabricated parts and tooling are traceable and documented.

Utility, Packaging & Process Equipment Support

  • Assist in maintenance and repair activities of utility equipment as required.
  • Support packaging and process equipment maintenance activities when assigned.
  • Coordinate with Team Leaders and technicians to support planned and breakdown maintenance.

Work Order & Information Management

  • Execute assigned work orders through the maintenance system.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion and closure of work orders.
  • Maintain equipment manuals, records, and documentation in an organized and accessible manner.

Spare Parts & Materials Management

  • Use correct spare parts and materials for fabrication and repairs.
  • Identify alternative materials and suppliers to improve quality and reduce costs.
  • Support sourcing of cost-effective and reliable spare parts.

Continuous Improvement & Reliability

  • Record incidents, failures, and observations accurately in work orders.
  • Perform basic root cause analysis and document findings.
  • Propose improvement actions and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Contribute suggestions to improve equipment availability, reliability, and cost efficiency.

Tools, Safety & Housekeeping

  • Use appropriate tools and maintain workshop equipment in good condition.
  • Maintain monthly inventory of tools and workshop equipment.
  • Apply all company safety rules and regulations.
  • Suggest safety improvements related to workplace practices and PPE.
  • Perform housekeeping activities to maintain clean and safe workshop conditions.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Equipment availability and reliability as per defined targets.
  • Work order completion rate and accuracy.
  • Reduction in spare parts and maintenance-related costs.
  • Number of improvement suggestions implemented.
  • Tool inventory accuracy and condition.
  • Safety performance and housekeeping (GHK) results.
  • Zero or minimal lost time accidents (LTAs).

Requirements

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience as a Machinist in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

Knowledge

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, manuals, and technical documents.
  • Knowledge of machining operations, tolerances, and fabrication techniques.
  • Basic understanding of maintenance systems and work order processes.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma.
  • Trade School Certificate as Machinist (mandatory).

Accountability Indicators

  • Ensure accurate fabrication and timely delivery of spare parts.
  • Maintain machining equipment, tools, and workshop facilities in safe working condition.
  • Support maintenance activities with minimal downtime impact.
  • Maintain accurate work order records and documentation.
  • Contribute to cost reduction and reliability improvement initiatives.
