Vice President - Data Services

Job Purpose:

To own and lead the bank's enterprise data strategy, data architecture, and analytics capabilities, including cloud and big-data platforms. The role is responsible for designing, delivering, and managing a centralized data warehouse and enterprise data model that supports business intelligence, MIS, predictive analytics, and regulatory reporting. This position enables high-quality, secure, and trusted data across the organization, supports self-service analytics for business users, and ensures data platforms, reporting tools, and integration processes are implemented and maintained in line with best practices and evolving business requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

To develop and implement a central Bank Data model across all business lines and operational / support functions

To maintain the data model in a centralized data warehouse (MS SQL 2017) which will support the overall reporting and MIS requirements of the business.

To build & deliver capabilities that would enable businesses to perform self-service around reporting, analytics and dashboard

To design and deliver predictive analytics solutions

To design and deliver capabilities for cloud-data and big-data across the bank

To ensure that the data model factors all the required business KPIs (loans, cards, Islamic and wholesale banking products) and regulatory reporting requirements which will eliminate any calculations or logic derivations in the reporting / visualization platforms

To own and be responsible for managing / supporting the overlaying reporting / visualization tools (such as Qlik, business objects, crystal reports, SSRS, power BI etc.) through best practice deployment, management and maintenance processes.

To continuously enhance / maintain / adapt the data model with the changing business and operational requirements as well as with the introduction of new systems and processes.

To be responsible for the application stacks (Application and Infrastructure) around data warehouse, reporting and the required ETL / integration tools, in terms of software versions, optimization of queries as well as relevant EOD batch processes.

To build & deliver capabilities that would enable businesses to perform self-service around reporting, analytics and dashboard.

To lead and direct the development and implementation of effective IT processes, services and controls around Data warehouse that help ensure the realization of the IT strategy, and enable businesses to perform self-service in terms of developing and maintaining their own reports / dashboards and perform business analytics

To participate in project / change discussions and provide input on how the centralized data model can be used to optimize processes and decision.

Supporting the control functions such as Compliance, Audit etc. in providing reactive and proactive analysis and reporting, supporting and directing data driven investigations and special projects

Responsible for enhancing data collection / extraction procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytic systems

Developing, Training and Supporting other non-technical team members in the learning of Data Science and Analytics

To participate and review the necessary activities to support the business in Business Continuity Management (BCM) and Disaster Recovery (DR) practices.

To effectively maintain a balanced business unit in terms of Financial, Strategic, Customer Care, Operational, as well as an Organizational wellbeing perspective.

To direct, schedule and review risks and mitigation activities to help enhance internal controls.

To review ITD activities that maintain and enhance operational manuals and system documentation in area of responsibility.

To manage, schedule and review evaluation activities to continuously enhance the processes and procedures in area of responsibility to reduce incidents and help mitigate risks, through increased consistency in task execution.

To lead, manage and schedule activities to address identified audit and risk related observations

To interpret and communicate complex technical ideas to non-technical personnel and vice versa Clear communication and stakeholder management

To document and maintain a data dictionary / mapping notes for the data model and / or any reports or dashboards prepared for the reporting / visualization tools

To approve, author, update, and review team level documentation to help ensure these artefacts meet quality criteria and kept up to date.

To participate, chair and approve wider documentation quality review activities.

To lead the identification and pursuit of opportunities to reduce costs within IT, driving valid opportunities to the point of achieving tangible cost reduction.

To analyze, compile and prepare financial data for senior management to help them make informed decisions before committing to financial expenditure.

To manage, schedule, review and provide the required support to ongoing projects and assist the successful completion of allocated tasks within the specified timelines.

To lead identification, bid and delivery activities that help ensure these are correctly documented, monitored and controlled throughout.

To appraise, approve, manage, review and schedule departmental activities, including setting milestones, objectives and KPI's to help ensure tasks are actively managed through to fruition.

To manage, verify and provide work direction to one or more technical or clerical staff or act as a team lead on designated projects or assignments.

To lead departmental activities and manage business unit heads to support customer requirements.

To manage, review and schedule activities, helping to ensure these are being conducted in-line with business standards and guidelines

To lead management activities to help ensure reviews are correctly scheduled and conducted, for IT support capabilities covering resolution of incidents, queries and requests from various departments and business units

To manage, monitor and review activities that monitor, log and review supplier activities on and off site to help ensure levels of service are maintained.

Accountability / Decision Making:

To manage, review and approve activities to analyze, manage, and review the engagement with suppliers, helping to ensure the business obtains the expected value from these partnerships

To mentor, coach and provide training to internal and external teams to help ensure they are competent in the utilization of products and services IT deliver to the business.

To attend training and awareness sessions, sharing gained knowledge and positively contributing to IT's knowledge and expertise.

Education:

Bachelor's or master's degree in computer or information systems or related field.

Preferred: Postgraduate qualification in a related discipline, such as Data Science, Statistics, or a similar field

Professional / Technical Qualifications / Diplomas:

Relevant qualifications and/or training in data analysis and data visualization using technologies and tools such as SQL, DB2, Qlik Sense, Power BI, SSRS, Business Objects, Crystal Reports, Hadoop, MS Access, VBA, or similar

Experience:

A minimum of 10 years experience, preferably in banking, managing a similar department.

Other Skills Required for the Job:

Proven experience in data modelling, analysis, and reporting

Hands-on experience with cloud and big-data platforms (e.g. Azure, AWS)

Strong knowledge of reporting tools, databases, and programming/query languages, including SQL, DB2, Qlik Sense, Power BI, SSRS, Business Objects, Crystal Reports, Hadoop, MS Access, VBA, or similar technologies

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical tools for data analysis

Strong technical expertise in data modelling, database design and development, data mining, and segmentation techniques

Experience in data processing, normalization, cleansing, and wrangling

Proven ability in creating, managing, and querying relational datasets
