Job Description

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail oriented General Accountant to support the finance function of a fast paced FMCG business. The role will be responsible for day to day accounting operations, month end closing, inventory accounting, and compliance with financial and VAT regulations. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a high volume, deadline driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate general ledger entries and supporting schedules
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities
  • Reconcile bank accounts, inter company balances, and control accounts

Accounts Payable & Receivable

  • Process supplier invoices and ensure timely payments
  • Monitor customer receivables and follow up on outstanding balances
  • Reconcile AP and AR ledgers

Inventory & Cost Accounting

  • Track inventory movements and reconcile stock balances
  • Support cost of goods sold (COGS) calculations
  • Assist with stock counts, variance analysis, and write offs
  • Liaise with warehouse and operations teams on inventory accuracy

VAT & Compliance

  • Prepare and support VAT returns in line with FTA requirements
  • Ensure proper VAT treatment on sales, purchases, and imports
  • Support internal and external audits
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies

Systems & Controls

  • Maintain accurate financial records within the ERP/accounting system
  • Support improvements to financial processes and internal controls
  • Assist with system reconciliations and data integrity checks

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 36 years experience in a General Accountant or similar role
  • Prior experience in FMCG, retail, distribution, or manufacturing preferred
  • Strong understanding of VAT regulations
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Dynamics, or similar)
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
