Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Marine Commissioning Manager with extensive experience in marine systems to lead the commissioning activities of complex offshore and coastal projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in marine engineering, including HVAC, generators, engines, freshwater systems, and accommodation services. Candidates with a designation of Chief Engineer are strongly encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning and execution of all marine commissioning activities, ensuring strict adherence to HSE, QAQC, and environmental standards.
  • Manage and deliver commissioning, start-up, initial operations, and performance testing of marine systems such as HVAC, power generation, propulsion engines, fresh water supply, and accommodation systems.
  • Develop and implement commissioning strategies that minimize operational risks during start-up and commissioning phases.
  • Optimize project execution schedules, coordinating closely with construction, engineering, and operations teams to ensure seamless transfer of custody and handover.
  • Drive subcontractors, vendors, and specialist marine contractors to deliver their scopes from mechanical completion through to performance testing.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the marine commissioning team and stakeholders, ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, and according to project requirements.
  • Define, plan, and execute offshore work packages, including hook-up activities, de-preservation, removal of transportation aids, and offshore commissioning scopes.
  • Oversee offshore installation operations, acting as Offshore Installation Manager during hook-up and commissioning phases.
  • Coordinate offshore logistics, ensuring all offshore needs are accounted for and aligned with onshore planning.
  • Ensure offshore work adheres to safety protocols, including Permit to Work systems, lock-out/tag-out procedures, and hazard management.
  • Facilitate the completion and transfer of systems with detailed walkdowns, joint inspections, and documentation for handover to operations.
  • Monitor and control commissioning budgets, resources, and schedules, ensuring timely delivery within scope.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and environmental requirements, including waste management and hazardous substance disposal.
  • Lead the development, review, and approval of commissioning procedures, ensuring consistency and high standards.
  • Interface with clients, regulators, and project stakeholders, providing updates and ensuring all requirements are planned and demonstrated.
  • Promote zero-harm safety culture and environmental responsibility across all marine commissioning activities.
  • Support constructability reviews for marine systems and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum 12 years of postgraduate or apprenticeship experience in the Marine, Offshore, or Renewables sector; Oil & Gas experience considered a plus.
  • At least 5 years in a Lead Commissioning Engineer or Operations role, with a focus on marine systems.
  • At least 3 years in a Commissioning Manager role, overseeing complex offshore or marine projects.
  • Proven experience commissioning marine HVAC, generators, engines, desalination or fresh water systems, and accommodation facilities.
  • Strong understanding of offshore installation, hook-up, and start-up procedures.
  • Demonstrated leadership in safety, quality, and environmental compliance.
  • Designation of Chief Engineer or similar marine certification highly encouraged.

Training & Certifications:

  • Offshore training for German/EU coastal waters represents an advantage but not mandatory
  • Relevant safety certifications, including Permit to Work, Marine Safety, and Environmental Compliance.
