Job Description

About Booktime

Booktime, an initiative of the Hindawi Foundation, is a global charitable digital publisher dedicated to creating and sharing beautifully illustrated children's books in multiple languages — free of charge.

We believe books help children see further, think bigger, and dream deeper. Reading changes everything.

The Role:

We are seeking an experienced English Copyeditor to join our team and contribute to the development of engaging children's books for our digital platform (app & web), including picture books, educational books, and chapter books.

In this role, you will ensure that all content meets high editorial standards, maintains a consistent tone, and delivers clear, compelling storytelling. You will also support the development of high-quality multilingual books that strengthen Booktime's voice and global presence. If you have a passion for children's literature, exceptional attention to detail, and a strong command of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation, we'd love to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities

  • Copyediting: Review and edit English children's books for grammar, spelling, punctuation, clarity, and overall readability
  • Consistency: Maintain consistency in style, tone, terminology, and vocabulary across all content
  • Fact Checking: Verify the accuracy of information presented in the books
  • Collaboration: Work closely with authors, translators, illustrators, and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality publications

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in English or a related field
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience editing children's literature or similar content
  • Excellent command of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to manage tasks independently and meet deadlines
  • Genuine passion for children's literature and storytelling
  • Familiarity with The Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS) is a plus
  • Tech-savvy, with the ability to work efficiently on digital publishing platforms and content management systems

Key Competencies:

  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Adaptability: Comfortable working in a dynamic environment with evolving priorities
  • Problem Solving: Ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions
  • Teamwork: Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
