Scope

As an Investment Analyst within Gutmann Capital's Investment Management team, you will play a key role across the origination, evaluation, structuring, execution, and ongoing management of proprietary investments. You will be embedded in a lean, entrepreneurial environment with direct exposure to senior leadership, portfolio company executives, and external advisors.

You will be expected to take increasing responsibility for core workstreams, contributing meaningfully to transaction execution, strategic analysis, and client-facing deliverables from day one.

Responsibilities

A. Mergers & Acquisitions

1. Origination

  • Develop investment criteria and sector screens aligned with Gutmann Capital's strategy.
  • Source opportunities through multiple channels and evaluate inbound proposals for fit and preliminary attractiveness.

2. Evaluation

  • Lead financial, commercial, and legal due diligence workstreams with internal teams and external advisors.
  • Assess investment risks, value drivers, and sensitivities; prepare comprehensive investment memos for the Investment Committee and Board.

3. Structuring

  • Support the development of investment structures, governance frameworks, and shareholder protections.
  • Prepare term sheets and investment memoranda articulating the thesis, risks, and expected returns.

4. Execution

  • Support negotiations with counterparties to secure favourable terms and protections in SPAs and SHAs.
  • Manage closing processes, ensuring alignment with legal, regulatory, and internal requirements.

B. Portfolio Management & Divestments

1. Planning

  • Work with portfolio company leadership to develop strategic, operational, and financial plans that drive value creation.
  • Identify key growth levers, efficiency opportunities, and strategic priorities.

2. Implementation

  • Translate strategic plans into actionable initiatives and support management in executing value-creation roadmaps.
  • Monitor progress against targets and recommend course corrections where needed.

3. Monitoring

  • Support governance activities, including board materials, KPI tracking, and regular performance assessments.
  • Provide reporting on portfolio performance, key initiatives, and identified risks.

4. Exit

  • Contribute to exit strategy development, including timing, positioning, valuation analysis, and advisor coordination.
  • Prepare materials for IPOs, trade sales, or secondary buyouts to maximize realized value.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, management, economics, engineering, or related field; CFA, or ACCA (in-progress or completed) preferred.
  • 12 years of experience in strategy consulting, private equity, investment management, investment banking, or transaction advisory
  • Strong financial analysis skills and working knowledge of due diligence and investment structuring
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical capabilities, including financial modeling
  • Solid understanding of financial statements, key assumptions, and structural considerations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel; PowerPoint experience expected
  • Strategic, analytical thinker with a proactive, ownership-driven approach
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and execution-driven environment
