Company Description

Akor Group is a registered importer and marketer of petroleum products in Sierra Leone, operating fuel stations across Freetown and other key cities. We are part of an integrated group providing essential services and products that support economic growth and quality employment.

MFK Capital Global Ltd specializes in precious metals trading and operates with the support and expertise of the AKOR Group of companies. We are seeking a hands-on Operations Manager who is willing to relocate and lead on-the-ground operations in Sierra Leone.

Role Description

The Operations Manager will be responsible for overseeing daily fuel stock management and sales order processes across company stations, ensuring operational efficiency, strong internal controls, and compliance with applicable petroleum industry standards and safety regulations, while coordinating effectively with internal teams and third-party storage providers to support accurate reporting, controlled stock releases, and consistent service delivery.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee daily stock management and reconciliation processes (wet stock, variances, loss investigation).
  • Supervise the Operations Supervisor, Stock Controller, Engineer, and Security staff; set targets and accountability.
  • Review and approve daily stock position reports; validate supporting documentation and exception items.
  • Ensure compliance with petroleum industry standards and safety regulations; lead incident reporting and corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with third-party storage providers on stock reporting, reconciliations, and controlled releases (SLA discipline).
  • Ensure proper issuance and control of delivery orders, seals, and movement documentation to prevent unauthorized releases.
  • Coordinate product receiving and dispatch controls for own and third-party trucks; resolve short delivery disputes.
  • Liaise with the Finance Unit on payment verification, invoicing, and release approvals (segregation of duties).
  • Implement and enforce internal control measures for stock, cash exposure, access control, and documentation integrity.
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping and audit readiness; maintain traceable audit trail in ERP/POS/Excel.
  • Identify operational risks (stockouts, shrinkage, downtime, safety) and implement mitigation measures with owners and timelines.
  • Support management decision-making through accurate reporting, KPI dashboards, and weekly action plans.
  • Perform other ad hoc operational duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations Management, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications in operations or supply chain management are an added advantage.
  • HSE / Safety training is an added advantage.

EXPERIENCE

  • At least 2 years experience in operations or supply chain management.
  • At least 2 years of experience in oil & gas, petroleum depot, terminal, or fuel retail operations.
  • Experience managing teams and coordinating multi-functional operations across multiple sites.
  • Experience working with third-party vendors (storage, transport, security, maintenance) is an advantage.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • Strong leadership and people management skills (shift discipline, coaching, performance management).
  • Excellent analytical, planning, and problem-solving abilities (root-cause approach, closure mindset).
  • Strong understanding of ERP or inventory management systems; strong Excel reporting skills.
  • Knowledge of petroleum measurement and safety standards; strong controls mindset to reduce losses and leakage.
  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills (Finance, storage providers, transport, regulators if required).
  • High level of integrity, accountability, and professionalism (high-trust role with sensitive controls).

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

  • Knowledge of petroleum measurement standards (API, ASTM).
  • Understanding of tank gauging, calibration charts, and temperature correction.
  • Familiarity with depot and terminal operations, including controlled release procedures.
  • Ability to interpret operational and financial reports; ability to explain variances and corrective actions clearly.
